Electromagnetic Model of Linear Resonant Actuators

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 2023
AbstractLinear resonant actuators (LRAs) are used extensively in consumer electronic devices such as cell phones and fitness trackers to provide haptic signals to users. This work presents a dynamic model of LRAs based, principally, on the electromagnetic aspects of the these devices.

A flexure-based electromagnetic linear actuator

Nanotechnology, 2008
This paper introduces a novel nano-positioning actuator with large displacement and driving force, termed a flexure-based electromagnetic linear actuator (FELA). It mainly comprises an electromagnetic driving scheme and flexure-supporting bearings that provide infinite positioning resolution and highly repeatable motion.

Position estimation for linear electromagnetic actuators

2017 IEEE International Symposium on Sensorless Control for Electrical Drives (SLED), 2017
This paper explores the possibilities of position estimation for linear electromagnetic actuators, in comparison to rotating electric motors. The linear actuator under study is a DC type short stroke permanent magnet actuator with an E-core stator. The non-linearity in the inductance model is first measured and identified on a commercially available ...

Nonlinear electromagnetic force analysis and compensation control of electromagnetic linear actuator

Physica Scripta, 2023
Abstract Nonlinear electromagnetic force is a common phenomenon in electromagnetic linear actuators (EMLA). This nonlinearity limits the application in high-precision control systems. For facilitating the controller design, the influencing factors of nonlinear electromagnetic force were analyzed, and the quadratic polynomial with unknown

Loss analysis of electromagnetic linear actuator

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2014
This paper presents the research on loss analysis of the electromagnetic linear actuator (ELA) with the purpose of performance improvement of ELA applied to the engine electromagnetic driven valve train(EDVT). To define ELA's loss distribution and variation, quantitative analysis has been carried out against ELA's loss composition and variation at ...

Automobile Suspensions Using Electromagnetic Linear Actuators

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2000
Abstract The development of rare-earth magnetic materials, power electronics and control has enabled the construction of lighter and smaller permanent magnet actuators. Its reduced friction losses and the natural control flexibility of the electric equipment should allow for improvements in the automobile suspension behaviour.

Development of linear actuator for electromagnetic pump

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2019
Recently, the majority of artificial hearts have been non-pulsatile types. However natural hearts are pulsatile, and the long-term bio-compatibility of the non-pulsatile types has not been confirmed. We developed a linear actuator that can expect to be applied to pulsatile artificial heart.

Electromagnetic linear actuators with inductive position sensing

Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 1996
Abstract Magnetically driven linear micro-actuators with 1 mN output force and hundreds of microns of total travel have been realized using LIGA-like processing techniques. These devices are driven at resonance frequencies of around 350 Hz and exhibit quality factors of about 300 in air.

Robust electromagnetic optimization of linear tubular actuators

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2004
The concept of robust optimization of electromagnetic devices using finite-element models is presented. An original "trellis" experimental design is used to achieve the optimization process and a robustness analysis is done using the signal-to-noise ratio. The robustness study deals with modeling and building noises and is applied to the optimal design
