Role of electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy in pulmonary nodule management [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Thoracic Disease, 2016
The incidence of pulmonary nodules and lung cancer is rising. Some of this increase in incidence is due to improved pick up by newer imaging modalities. However, the goal is to diagnose these lesion, many of which are located in the periphery, by safe and relatively non-invasive methods.

Risk factors for pulmonary infection after diagnostic bronchoscopy in patients with lung cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
2020-02Pulmonary infection is a relatively rare but serious complication of flexible bronchoscopy. The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors for pulmonary infectious complications after diagnostic bronchoscopy in patients with lung cancer ...

Bronchoscopy Robot with Enhanced Flexibility and Stability via Multi‐Segment Variable Stiffness Catheter

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026.
This work presents a magnetic bronchoscopy robot with a novel multi‐segment variable stiffness catheter. This catheter can not only move flexibly in the narrow bronchi but also harden according to the need to provide support. Combined with remote wireless magnetic field drive, it provides a more precise and effective solution for biopsy of deep lung ...

The Feasibility of Using the “Artery Sign” for Pre-Procedural Planning in Navigational Bronchoscopy for Parenchymal Pulmonary Lesion Sampling

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2022
Background: Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) and robotic-assisted bronchoscopy (RAB) systems are used for pulmonary lesion sampling, and utilize a pre-procedural CT scan where an airway, or “bronchus sign”, is used to map a pathway to the ...

Intraoperative Contrast‐Enhanced Ultrasonography (Io‐CEUS) to Detect Missed Lung Nodules During Robot‐Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, Volume 17, Issue 17, September 2026.
During robotic thoracic surgery, Intraoperative Ultrasound is the surgeon's finger to detect small nodule. ABSTRACT Herein, we reported the use of Intraoperative‐Contrast Enhanced Ultrasonography (Io‐CEUS) during Robotic Assisted Thoracic Surgery (RATS) for identification of malignant lung nodule that was missed during previous operation. Pre‐operative

Electromagnetic Navigational Bronchoscopy in the Diagnosis of Lung Lesions

open access: yesJournal of Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology, 2012
The diagnosis of pulmonary lesions that are not bronchoscopically visible is a challenging process. Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB) is a new technology designed to diagnose peripheral pulmonary lesions. We sought to determine whether diagnostic yield from ENB was affected by bronchus sign, lesion location, or size.Data were obtained ...

Electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB): Increasing diagnostic yield [PDF]

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine, 2012
To determine factors associated with diagnostic yield of ENB.In 112 consecutive patients referred to our department between March 2010 and December 2010 the diagnostic work-up for solitary pulmonary lesions included a FDG-PET-CT scan, and ENB in combination with ROSE.

Use of the Ion Robot in the Diagnosis of Pulmonary Nodules: Fine Needle Aspiration Versus Cryobiopsy

open access: yesDiagnostic Cytopathology, Volume 54, Issue 8, Page 562-567, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Robotic‐assisted bronchoscopy platforms provide an innovative approach to the sampling of pulmonary nodules. As compared to other technologies, fiber‐optic shape‐sensing instrumentation allows for a more precise, accurate location and sampling of the target lesion with fewer complications.

Comparing Complications Between Shape‐Sensing Robotic‐Assisted Bronchoscopy and Trans‐Thoracic Needle Pulmonary Biopsy Approaches: Insights From a Large Nationally Representative Administrative Database

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, Volume 17, Issue 13, July 2026.
In this large‐scale database analysis, ssRAB demonstrated a better safety profile compared to TTNB. Superior safety combined with a potentially comparable performance and known advantages of bronchoscopy including concurrent staging support ssRAB as an optimal choice of biopsy for suspicious pulmonary lesions.
