The goal of electromagnetic (EM) shielding is to protect electrical and electronic components and assemblies from external EM fields or to prevent that EM fields produced by apparatus and systems may be source of interferences or malfunctioning; in fact, such EM fields can interfere with the electronic devices causing damages and failures in their ...

Fundamentals of Electromagnetic Shielding
2007The shielding effectiveness (SE) is typically defined as the ratio of the magnitude of the incident electric field, E i , to the magnitude of the transmitted electric field, E t : $$ SE = \left| {\frac{{\vec E_i }} {{\vec E_t }}} \right| SE\left( {dB} \right) = 20 \cdot \log _{10} \left( {\frac{{E_i }} {{E_t }}} \right) $$ (3.1)

Control of electromagnetic waves through electromagnetic shielding
2011 International Conference on Emerging Trends in Electrical and Computer Technology, 2011In this paper, propagation of electromagnetic waves around the shielded enclosure is analyzed through simulation using MATLAB. Also the importance of electromagnetic shielding and the effect of aperture in shielded enclosure are revealed using MATLAB. All electronic equipments emit electromagnetic waves during operation.

Development of a multilayer conductor electromagnetic shield for optimum shielding performance
Proceedings of the International Conference & Workshop on Emerging Trends in Technology - ICWET '11, 2011Electromagnetic shielding for an electronic circuit is of prime concern in its design. With exponentially growing technology of VLSI; the circuit size is drastically reduced. Developing an electromagnetic shield for such a reduced size of electronic circuits requires ultra thin conductor shields while achieving the required shielding performance ...

Electromagnetic Coupling and Shielding
1995The role, effects, and function of electromagnetic coupling are among the most important topics in cable shielding. They are also among the most confusing and challenging issues. The existing approaches span two extremes: (1) reducing all the shielding mechanisms to different forms of coupling, and (2) ignoring completely the role of coupling in ...
