Circuit-Based Electromagnetic Transient Simulation
Foundations and TrendsĀ® in Electric Energy Systems, 2023The growing penetration of inverter-based resources and associated controls necessitates system-wide electromagnetic transient (EMT) analyses. EMT tools and methods today were not designed for the scale of these analyses. In light of the emerging need, there is a great deal of interest in developing new techniques for fast and accurate EMT simulations ...

Modelling and simulation strategy for parametric transient electromagnetic simulations
International Journal of Modelling, Identification and Control, 2013This paper presents an efficient two-step reduction strategy for parametric transient electromagnetic simulations. The first step involves the conversion of a large system of parametrised differential algebraic equations (PDAEs), obtained after finite element (FE) discretisation into a significantly smaller system of ordinary differential equations ...

Electric Power Systems Research, 2005
This paper is devoted to the development of a hybrid simulator which integrates the electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulator and transient stability (TS) simulator. It discusses how two very different simulators can be coordinated to work together and produce accurate solution.

Electromagnetic transient simulation studies
1999This chapter describes some research results of EMTP-based digital studies of SPWM UPFC. Useful insights into UPFC performance have been attained through detailed analysis and simulation of the UPFC internal structure and regulation method. Voltage and power control simulation results have demonstrated the functions of the UPFC.

Accuracy Evaluation of Electromagnetic Transients Simulation Algorithms
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2022This paper introduces a novel frequency domain technique to globally evaluate the accuracy of electro-magnetic transient simulations. It is shown that simulation accuracy at low frequencies can sometimes be poorer than at high frequency. A modified approach which quantifies accuracy from a driving point as a function of frequency is also introduced ...

Digital simulation of electromagnetic transients
Electric Power Systems Research, 1997Abstract This paper presents the development of a new time domain simulation program for the computation of electromagnetic transients over a wide frequency spectrum. The application of the program to investigate the Subsynchronous Resonance phenomenon is given.

An Efficient Solver for Electromagnetic Transient Simulation
2019In this paper a mesh-free method for electromagnetic transient simulation is presented. This method enables to simulate electromagnetic problems avoiding the use of a regular grid in the discretized model. The proposed method is a particular mesh-free method based on particles, that is no initial regular grid but only an arbitrary particles ...

A model for simulating corona in the electromagnetic transients on transmission lines
Computers & Electrical Engineering, 2003Abstract This paper presents a new model for analyzing the electromagnetic transients along transmission lines, which can be totally or partially under corona. Time-domain modeling techniques have been used for representing the line itself by dividing its entire length into an adequate number of identical sections.
