Evaluation of Corona and Line Models in Electromagnetic Transients Simulations

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1991
The main purpose of this study is to make a comparative evaluation of the large number of available corona models in terms of their accuracy and suitability for interface with the EMTP (electromagnetic transients program). The recommended models have been interfaces with the standard frequency dependent transmission line model in the EMTP.

A smoothed particle interpolation scheme for transient electromagnetic simulation

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2006
In this paper, the fundamentals of a mesh-free particle numerical method for electromagnetic transient simulation are presented. The smoothed particle interpolation methodology is used by considering the particles as interpolation points in which the electromagnetic field components are computed.

Electromagnetic transient simulation

1998
This chapter discusses electromagnetic transient simulation. The simulation of electromagnetic transients associated with HVDC schemes is carried out to assess the nature and likely impact of overvoltages and currents, and their propagation throughout both the AC and DC systems.

Simulation of electromagnetic transients with EMTP-RV

2015
This chapter presented a summary on numerical methods used in EMTP (EMTPRV version) for the computation of electromagnetic transients. EMTP offers several options and modules for the simulation and analysis of complex power systems. EMTP offers a unified environment that can be applied to study power systems from steady-state conditions, to ...

Stability Analysis of Electromagnetic Transient Simulations

2018
We present an analysis of the stability characteristics of the discretized Maxwell-Ampere equations that result from a finite integration of the potential formulation. We demonstrate that the derivation of the discrete versions of these equations will result into unstable formulations unless, in the conversion from a continuous expression to a discrete

z-transform-based methods for electromagnetic transient simulations

2008 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting - Conversion and Delivery of Electrical Energy in the 21st Century, 2007
This is an introductory paper on z-transform-based methods for electromagnetic transient simulations of power systems. Since the theory of the z-transform was originally developed for the analysis of time series data defined at equidistant time steps, simulation models developed using z-transforms can readily be used in electromagnetic transient ...

Modeling of a buried conductor for an electromagnetic transient simulation

IEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2006
AbstractThe paper has proposed a distributed‐line model of a buried bare conductor with horizontal and vertical configuration by assuming an artificial insulator outside of the bare conductor so that the characteristic impedance and the propagation velocity of the buried conductor is evaluated as an insulated conductor (cable) by the cable constants ...

Electromagnetic Transient Simulation of Hybrid Electric Vehicles

2007 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2007
The paper presents a procedure for modeling emerging hybrid and electric vehicle drive-trains in a transient simulation program. The benefit of such models is that they enable detailed studies to be carried out on the performance of the drive-train through detailed modeling of drive motors, power converters, and energy storage subsystems.

Modeling and Simulation of ±800kV HVDC Electromagnetic Transients

2020 Asia Energy and Electrical Engineering Symposium (AEEES), 2020
With the dense access of Large-scale high voltage direct current (HVDC), the problem of AC and HVDC interaction is prominent. To ensure the safe and stable operation of AC/DC hybrid power grid, it is necessary to accurately simulate HVDC transient and steady state according to the actual control program.

Investigation of the use of electromagnetic transient models for transient stability simulation

6th International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management. Proceedings. APSCOM 2003, 2003
This paper presents the advancement in enhancing the transient stability simulation with detailed device level modeling of power electronic devices such as FACTS and HVDC. An electromagnetic transient (EMT) model of an SVC has been built and incorporated into a conventional transient stability (TS) program.
