The transient electromagnetic field of a dielectric layer

Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2004
For many years the correlation between the propagation of electromagnetic waves in the atmosphere and meteorological conditions has been a topic of study. The present paper treats this problem in the context of an electromagnetic impulse in an abnormal stratification of the lower troposphere, where the stratification layer is called a surface duct. The

An Electromagnetic Flowmeter for Transient Flow Studies

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1951
An adaptation of the electromagnetic flowmeter has been made for the observation of transients in liquid flows. The device responds to flow transients of 0.001-sec duration, and is not affected by ambient pressure changes or the velocity profile of the liquid in the conduit. The effects of fluid resistivity on the instrument are noted.

Electromagnetic transient testing

1994
In this brief introduction to the nature of transients and disturbance to power distribution systems it has only been possible to acquaint the reader with the broad categories of effects and show some examples of applicable standards and specifications.

Electromagnetic transient simulation studies

1999
This chapter describes some research results of EMTP-based digital studies of SPWM UPFC. Useful insights into UPFC performance have been attained through detailed analysis and simulation of the UPFC internal structure and regulation method. Voltage and power control simulation results have demonstrated the functions of the UPFC.

Electromagnetic Transients in Power Cables

2013
For more than a century, overhead lines have been the most commonly usedtechnology for transmitting electrical energy at all voltage levels, especially on the highest levels. However, in recent years, an increase in both the number and length of HVAC cables in the transmission networks of different countries like Denmark, Japan or United Kingdom has ...

Balance of Electromagnetic Energy in Transients

2019
Energy conservation is one of most fundamental rules in physics, which is interpreted as the input energy of any system is equal to the sum of the energy loss, storage and output.

Electromagnetic transient simulation

1998
This chapter discusses electromagnetic transient simulation. The simulation of electromagnetic transients associated with HVDC schemes is carried out to assess the nature and likely impact of overvoltages and currents, and their propagation throughout both the AC and DC systems.

Continuous Transient Electromagnetic Sounding

1st EEGS Meeting, 1995
Steadily growing abstraction of ground water together with the impact of pollution from surface infiltration have increased the need for hydrogeological investigations of aquifers. The mapping of subsurface resistivity structures using electrical and electromagnetic methods has gained a central role in the set-up of hydrogeological models of catchments

Techniques for analyzing electromagnetic transients

IEEE Computer Applications in Power, 1997
With few exceptions, power system electromagnetic transients must be studied on a three-phase basis rather than on a positive sequence single-phase basis. For example, the three-phase opening of a circuit breaker is no longer a symmetric event in the ms range.

Transient electromagnetic interference in substations

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1994
Electromagnetic interference levels on sensitive electronic equipment are quantified experimentally and theoretically in air and gas insulated substations of different voltages. Measurement techniques for recording interference voltages and currents and electric and magnetic fields are reviewed and actual interference data are summarized. Conducted and
