Flavoproteins as native and genetically encoded spin probes for in cell ESR spectroscopy

open access: yesNature Communications
Flavin cofactors are attractive Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) probes for proteins because cellular reductants and light can generate their semiquinone states.

Pulsed Electron-Nuclear Double Resonance (ENDOR) at 140 GHz

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance, 1999
We describe a spectrometer for pulsed ENDOR at 140 GHz, which is based on microwave IMPATT diode amplifiers and a probe consisting of a TE011 cavity with a high-quality resonance circuit for variable radiofrequency irradiation. For pulsed EPR we obtain an absolute sensitivity of 3x10(9) spins/Gauss at 20 K.

Tetracyclic π‐Extended Multi‐Resonant TADF Emitters for Green PSF‐OLEDs With 37.7% EQE and BT.2020‐Compatible Top‐Emitting Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultra‐narrow green multi‐resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters have been developed by linear π‐extension strategy using tetracyclic naphtho[2,3‐b]benzofuran unit. The resulting phosphorescence‐sensitized OLEDs achieve a maximum external quantum efficiency of 37.7% in the bottom‐emitting architecture, while the complementary top ...

Double-Resonance Spectroscopy of Coupled Electron Spins on a Surface

open access: yes, 2023
Scanning–tunneling microscopy (STM) combined with electron spin resonance (ESR) has enabled single-spin spectroscopy with nanoelectronvolt energy resolution and angstrom-scale spatial resolution, which allows quantum sensing and magnetic resonance ...

Pressure‐Assisted Dimensional Transformation of 2D Hydrogenated Borophene into 0D Boron Quantum Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrogenated borophene (HB) is transformed into distinct boron nanostructures through a solvent‐free thermal process. Under flowing nitrogen, hydrogen escape promotes reconstruction into B2O3 nanoplatelets, whereas hydrogen‐induced pressure under sealed conditions facilitates fragmentation into boron quantum dots.

Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Borazine-Type UV Photo-Induced Polymerization of Ceramic Precursors

open access: yesMolecules, 2016
A preceramic polymer of B,B′,B′′-(dimethyl)ethyl-acrylate-silyloxyethyl-borazine was synthesized by three steps from a molecular single-source precursor and characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR ...

Anisotropic Phonon Dynamics and Directional Transport in Actinide Van der Waals Semiconductor Uranium Triselenide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
USe3 is introduced as an actinide van der Waals semiconductor that mirrors the quasi‐one‐dimensional physics of transition‐metal trichalcogenides. Polarization‐resolved Raman spectroscopy on exfoliated flakes maps strong in‐plane phonon anisotropy and strain‐tunable mode shifts.

Radiation-Induced Paramagnetic Centers in Meso- and Macroporous Synthetic Opals from EPR and ENDOR Data

open access: yesMagnetochemistry
The paramagnetic defects and radiation-induced paramagnetic centers (PCs) in silica opals can play a crucial role in determining the magnetic and electronic behavior of materials and serve as local probes of their electronic structure.

Melanin's Role in Balancing Mechanical Strength and Reproductive Output in Environmentally Stressed Fungal Spores

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Melanin content directly controls fungal spore mechanical properties, with pigmented spores achieving rupture forces two orders of magnitude higher than hyaline spores. Environmental stress drives this quantity‐quality tradeoff; stressed species invest energy in melanin‐reinforced, mechanically superior thick‐walled, super‐hydrophobic spores, while ...
