Ambipolar limit of electron precipitation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 1993
In a magnetospheric condition, particles are often precipitated into the ionosphere of the host planet. When a flux tube is not interacting with those neighboring it, charge lost through its open ends to the ionosphere must vanish to ensure charge quasi‐neutrality in the flux tube as a whole.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

A superposed epoch analysis of auroral evolution during substorms: Local time of onset region [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
peer reviewedPrevious workers have shown that the magnetic local time (MLT) of substorm onset depends on the prevailing east-west component of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF).

Modelling the Spatial Extent of Medium Energy Electron Precipitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Jordens magnetosfære fungerer som et robust skjold, og beskytter planeten vår mot den nådeløse tilstrømningen av ladede partikler som hovedsakelig stammer fra solens solvind og fra de kosmiske strålene utenfor vårt solsystem.

Enhancing Strength and Electrical Conductivity in Al–Zr–Sc Conductor Alloys Through Sn and Sr Microalloying and Two‐Step Aging Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Trace additions of Sn and Sr combined with a two‐step aging treatment are shown to enhance the microstructure and performance of Al–Zr–Sc conductor alloys. Strength and electrical conductivity increase concurrently through accelerated precipitation of fine Al3(Sc, Zr) precipitates and improved dislocation resistance, offering a cost‐effective pathway ...

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Geomagnetic disturbances on ground associated with particle precipitation during SC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We have examined several cases of magnetosphere compression by solar wind pressure pulses using a set of instruments located in the noon sector of auroral zone.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

A study on the energetic electron precipitation observed by CSES

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Physics, 2018
High energy particles are the main target of satellite space exploration; particle storm events are closely related to solar activity, cosmic ray distribution, and magnetic storms.

Dependence of Energetic Electron Precipitation on the Geomagnetic Index Kp and Electron Energy [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2013
It has long been known that the magnetospheric particles can precipitate into the atmosphere of the Earth. In this paper we examine such precipitation of energetic electrons using the data obtained from low-altitude polar orbiting satellite ...
