Comprehensive profiling of lncRNAs and mRNAs enriched in small extracellular vesicles for early noninvasive detection of colorectal cancer: diagnostic panel assembly and extensive validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small extracellular vesicles are a promising source of diagnostic molecules. We conducted a comprehensive study, including transcriptome profiling and RT‐qPCR validation on large cohorts of samples. Diagnostic panels enabling sensitive detection of colorectal cancer and precancerous lesions were established. Some molecules were differentially expressed

Non-local spin-sensitive electron transport in diffusive proximity heterostructures

open access: yes, 2010
We formulate a quantitative theory of non-local electron transport in three-terminal disordered ferromagnet-superconductor-ferromagnet structures. We demonstrate that magnetic effects have different implications: While strong exchange field suppresses ...

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Dynamic Acclimation to High Light in Arabidopsis thaliana Involves Widespread Reengineering of the Leaf Proteome

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Leaves of Arabidopsis thaliana transferred from low to high light increase their capacity for photosynthesis, a process of dynamic acclimation. A mutant, gpt2, lacking a chloroplast glucose-6-phosphate/phosphate translocator, is deficient in its ability ...

Characterization of laser-produced fast electron source for integrated simulation of fast ignition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Relativistic electron currents (∼ 10 kA µm−2) are produced by focusing an intense laser beam (I ≥ 1019W cm−2) on a solid target. Based on this mechanism, an original inertial confinement fusion scheme has been proposed which consists in heating the ...

Inhibition of CDK9 enhances AML cell death induced by combined venetoclax and azacitidine

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The CDK9 inhibitor AZD4573 downregulates c‐MYC and MCL‐1 to induce death of cytarabine (AraC)‐resistant AML cells. This enhances VEN + AZA‐induced cell death significantly more than any combination of two of the three drugs in AraC‐resistant AML cells.

Plant-derived products as anti-leishmanials which target mitochondria: a review

open access: yesExpert Reviews in Molecular Medicine
Background The global incidences of leishmaniasis are increasing due to changing environmental conditions and growing poverty. Leishmaniasis, caused by the Leishmania parasite, presents itself in six different clinical forms, the cutaneous and the ...

Alleviation of Nitrogen and Sulfur Deficiency and Enhancement of Photosynthesis in Arabidopsis thaliana by Overexpression of Uroporphyrinogen III Methyltransferase (UPM1)

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Siroheme, an iron-containing tetrapyrrole, is the prosthetic group of nitrite reductase (NiR) and sulfite reductase (SiR); it is synthesized from uroporphyrinogen III, an intermediate of chlorophyll biosynthesis, and is required for nitrogen (N) and ...

Photon-assisted electron transport in graphene

open access: yes, 2006
Photon-assisted electron transport in ballistic graphene is analyzed using scattering theory. We show that the presence of an ac signal (applied to a gate electrode in a region of the system) has interesting consequences on electron transport in graphene,

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.
