Electron tomography reveals posttranscriptional binding of pre-mRNPs to specific fibers in the nucleoplasm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
International audienceUsing electron tomography, we have analyzed whether the Balbiani ring (BR) pre-mRNP particles in transit from the gene to the nuclear pore complex (NPC) are bound to any structure that could impair free diffusion through the ...

Cuminaldehyde downregulates folate metabolism and membrane proteins to inhibit growth of Penicillium digitatum in citrus fruit

open access: yesFuture Postharvest and Food
In our previous study, cuminaldehyde triggered oxidative stress to inhibit growth of Penicillium digitatum in citrus fruit. Here, we examined the molecular mechanism by which it inhibited growth of P. digitatum.

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.

A high-fat diet enriched with fish oil affects metabolic pathways in the hypothalamus of rats: a proteomic approach

open access: yesAcademia Nutrition and Dietetics
Omega-3 fat is recognized as healthy, but its excess consumption may be harmful. We evaluated whether the long-term intake of a high-fat fish oil diet affects protein expression in the hypothalamus, a key site in energy homeostasis control ...

3D Bioprinted Glioblastoma Multiforme Models: How the Extracellular Matrix Glycosignature Influences Drug Response

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Aberrant glycosylation in the glioblastoma tumor microenvironment drives therapeutic resistance. Here, a 3D bioprinted model was engineered by incorporating α‐NeuNAc‐(2→3)‐β‐D‐Gal‐ and chondroitin sulfate. Combined multiplex immunofluorescence and synchrotron‐based nanoCT analysis revealed that glycan‐matrix interactions dictate specific drug‐escape ...

The mitochondrial receptor complex [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The receptor complex in the mitochondrial outer membrane, which consists of at least seven different proteins, is responsible for the recognition and translocation of cytosolically synthesized preproteins.

Dual‐Layer Conducting and Redox Polymer Bioanodes for Synergistic Enhancement of Microbial Extracellular Electron Transfer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid PEDOT/Fc‐LPEI conducting/redox polymer bioanode synergistically improves microbial extracellular electron transfer (EET) in Shewanella oneidensis MR‐1. The dual‐layer interface delivers 18‐fold higher current output and 27‐fold greater charge collected than bare carbon felt, highlighting an effective strategy for high‐performance ...

Advances in Solution‐Processed Textile Triboelectric Nanogenerators: Ink Formation, Processing Strategies, Applications, and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Advanced ink systems for solution‐processed textile triboelectric nanogenerators are systematically summarized, spanning conductive, tribo‐negative, and tribo‐positive layers. By connecting ink chemistry, deposition methods, and device function, the present review reveals the key governing principles of solution development and highlights practical ...

Investigation of conserved amino acids in the PSST and TYKY subunits of complex I from Yarrowia lipolytica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Proton-translocating NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (complex I) transports two electrons from NADH to membranal ubiquinone: in this process protons are translocated across the membrane, producing 40% of the total proton gradient between matrix side and ...

Proteomics analysis of mitochondrial dysfunction triggered by complex specific electron transport chain inhibitors reveals common pathways involving protein misfolding in an SH-SY5Y in vitro cell model

open access: yes, 2022
Mitochondrial dysfunction has been previously identified in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer disease, Huntington disease, and Parkinson disease. Chemical inhibition of the mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC) was shown to trigger symptoms in animal models similar to those observed in human neurodegenerative diseases.
