Metamaterials for Ballistic Electrons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The paper presents a metamaterial for ballistic electrons, which consists of a quantum barrier formed in a semiconductor with negative effective electron mass.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Geometric phase analysis of magnetic skyrmion lattices in Lorentz transmission electron microscopy images

open access: yesScientific Reports
Magnetic skyrmions are quasi-particles with a swirling spin texture that form two-dimensional lattices. Skyrmion lattices can exhibit defects in response to geometric constraints, variations of temperature or applied magnetic fields.

Kinetic Modeling of Radiation Belt Electrons With Geant4 to Study Energetic Particle Precipitation in Earth's Atmosphere

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, 2023
We present a new model designed to simulate the process of energetic particle precipitation, a vital coupling mechanism from Earth's magnetosphere to its atmosphere.

Quantum Theory of Scattering of Nonclassical Fields by Free Electrons

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
At present, there is no non-perturbative theory of scattering of nonclassical electromagnetic waves by free electrons that describes the scattering process completely with the help of quantum physics.

Filtering and analyzing mobile qubit information via Rashba-Dresselhaus-Aharonov-Bohm interferometers

open access: yes, 2011
Spin-1/2 electrons are scattered through one or two diamond-like loops, made of quantum dots connected by one-dimensional wires, and subject to both an Aharonov-Bohm flux and (Rashba and Dresselhaus) spin-orbit interactions.

Near-Earth injection of MeV electrons associated with intense dipolarization electric fields: Van Allen Probes observations. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Substorms generally inject tens to hundreds of keV electrons, but intense substorm electric fields have been shown to inject MeV electrons as well. An intriguing question is whether such MeVelectron injections can populate the outer radiation belt.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Electron-Driven Instabilities in the Solar Wind

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
The electrons are an essential particle species in the solar wind. They often exhibit non-equilibrium features in their velocity distribution function.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
