A novel series of 4‐(diethylamino)salicylaldehyde‐based thiosemicarbazone derivatives 5(a–u) were synthesized and screened for their potential against Alzheimer's disease, by testing for their inhibitory effects against cholinesterases (AChE and BChE) and monoaminoxidase A (MAO‐A) and B (MAO‐A).

Ion channels: structural basis for function and disease. [PDF]
Ion channels are ubiquitous proteins that mediate nervous and muscular function, rapid transmembrane signaling events, and ionic and fluid balance. The cloning of genes encoding ion channels has led to major strides in understanding the mechanistic basis

The ethanolic extract of Şiran propolis exhibited strong antioxidant activity and inhibited α‐glycosidase, AChE, and human carbonic anhydrase isozymes I and II. High levels of phenolic acids, especially p‐coumaric and ferulic acids, correlated with its bioactivity.

Characterization of Monoclonal Antibodies that Strongly Inhibit Electrophorus Electricus Acetylcholinesterase [PDF]
In this study, we describe three different monoclonal antibodies (mAbs Elec‐403, Elec‐408, and Elec‐410) directed against Electrophorus electricus acetylcholinesterase (AChE) which were selected as inhibitors for this enzyme. Two of these antibodies (Elec‐403 and Elec‐410), recognized overlapping but different epitopes, competed with snake venom toxin ...

Effect of aerial O-2 partial pressure on bimodal gas exchange and air-breathing behaviour in Trichogaster leeri [PDF]
© The Company of Biologists Ltd 2007The effects of experimental alterations of aerial O2 partial pressure (PO2,air) on bimodal gas exchange and airbreathing behaviour were investigated in the aquatic airbreathing fish Trichogaster leeri in normoxic water.

Light‐Activated Pharmacological Tools for Exploring the Cholinergic System
ABSTRACT Cholinergic transmission plays a critical role in both the central and peripheral nervous systems, affecting processes such as learning, memory, and inflammation. Conventional cholinergic drugs generally suffer from poor selectivity and temporal precision, leading to undesired effects and limited therapeutic efficacy. Photopharmacology aims to

The Astonishing Behavior of Electric Eels
The remarkable physiology of the electric eel (Electrophorus electricus) made it one of the first model species in science. It was pivotal for understanding animal electricity in the 1700s, was investigated by Humboldt and Faraday in the 1800s, was ...

Monoclonal antibodies to the cells of a regenerating limb [PDF]
Monoclonal antibodies were raised against differentiated cells, and blastemal cells from regenerating limbs of adult newts (Notophthalmus viridescens) and screened for specific staining by immunocytochemistry.
