An electrophysiological model of chemotactic response in Paramecium
2006 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, 2006In order to survive in complex natural environments, living organisms have been genetically acquiring various algorithms. Paramecium, for example, exhibits an avoiding reaction when it senses repellent chemicals on the anterior part of the cell. Also, on sensing attractants, it accelerates its swimming velocity and remains in the area.

Electrophysiological responses to ischemia and reperfusion
1996Myocardial ischemia, defined as an imbalance between energetic demands of the heart and supply of metabolic substrates (inclusive of O2), produces profound changes in cardiac electrical activity which can eventually lead to the development of severe arrhythmias and sudden death.

Electrophysiological responses of cochlear root neurons
Hearing Research, 2001Cochlear root neurons (CRNs) are second-order neurons interspersed among the fibers of the cochlear nerve in certain rodents. They project, among other nuclei, mainly to the pontine reticular nucleus, and participate in the acoustic startle response (ASR), a short-latency motor reflex initiated by sudden intense sounds.

The electrophysiological response of fish to hypoxia
Aquacultural Engineering, 1997Abstract Electrophysiological signals, associated with the respiration activity, were recorded from tilapia hybrid (Oreochromis auratus × Oreochromis niloticus) held individually in electrode chambers. The signals were monitored and processed in real time to yield a set of indices characterizing the energy and frequency of the signal.

Electrophysiologic Mechanisms Responsible for Inotropic
Anesthesiology, 1992Inotropic and electrophysiologic effects of ketamine were investigated in cardiac preparations isolated from guinea pigs and rats. Ketamine produced a concentration-dependent negative inotropic effect in electrically driven guinea pig papillary muscles, an effect that was accompanied by a decrease in action potential duration at the 0-mV level (APD0 ...

Electrophysiological responses of the mouse retina to 12C ions
Neuroscience Letters, 2007Phosphenes ("light flashes") have been reported by most astronauts on space missions and by healthy subjects whose eyes were exposed to ionizing radiation in early experiments in particle accelerators. The conditions of occurrence suggested retinal effects of heavy ions.

Cardiovascular and electrophysiological responses to sympathetic pathway stimulation
American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1976Anesthetized, vagotomized, and paralyzed cats were used to study the relationship between changes in blood pressure and T2 preganglionic nerve activity elicited by stimulation of descending spinal sympathoexcitatory pathways. While low-frequency stimulation (1-10 Hz) resulted in a depressor response, an attenuation of sympathetic nerve evoked ...

Proarrhythmic Responses During Electrophysiologic Testing
Cardiology Clinics, 1986Proarrhythmia is a potentially lethal adverse effect of antiarrhythmic drugs. Underlying mechanisms and the approaches to identification are discussed. The applicability of electrophysiologic testing is considered, with particular reference to the validity of the different responses to programmed stimulation considered to be manifestations of ...

An electrophysiological study of the insertion of overt response choice.
Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 2000Using electrophysiological measures, the authors studied changes in prestimulus state, stimulus identification, and response-related processing when, in a go/no-go task, forced choice between 2 overt go responses was inserted. The authors observed decreased prestimulus motor preparation (electromyogram), no change in stimulus identification time ...

Electrophysiological response to insemination in oocytes of Urechis caupo
Developmental Biology, 1981We investigated the response to insemination of coelomic oocytes of the marine worm Urechis caupo with light and electron microscopy, electrophysiology, and by measuring ion fluxes. After insemination all oocytes from at least 20 to 120 μm in diameter (the maximum) bind and admit sperm; these oocytes are all in diplotene-diakinesis and are suspended in
