A constant current triboelectric nanogenerator arising from electrostatic breakdown

open access: yesScience Advances, 2019
A constant current triboelectric nanogenerator is designed for mechanical energy harvesting and self-powered systems. In situ conversion of mechanical energy into electricity is a feasible solution to satisfy the increasing power demand of the Internet ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Exotic Electrostatics: Unusual Features of Electrostatic Interactions between Macroions

open access: yes, 2010
We present an overview of our understanding of electrostatic interactions between charged macromolecular surfaces mediated by mobile counter- and coions.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Adjacent cationic–aromatic sequences yield strong electrostatic adhesion of hydrogels in seawater

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Electrostatic interaction is strong but usually diminishes in high ionic-strength environments. Biosystems can use this interaction through adjacent cationic–aromatic amino acids sequence of proteins even in a saline medium.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Counterion-Mediated Weak and Strong Coupling Electrostatic Interaction between Like-Charged Cylindrical Dielectrics

open access: yes, 2010
We examine the effective counterion-mediated electrostatic interaction between two like-charged dielectric cylinders immersed in a continuous dielectric medium containing neutralizing mobile counterions.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

A Simplified Numerical Approach to Examine the Sensitivity of Two-Electrode Capacitance Sensor Orientation to Capture Different Gas–Liquid Flow Patterns in a Small Circular Pipe

open access: yesSensors, 2020
This work involved the simulation of both a multiphase gas–liquid flow and the electromagnetic field representing a two-electrode capacitance sensor in a circular pipe.
