Light scattering and viscometric measurements on weak polyelectrolytes show two important aspects of counterion condensation, namely, non-monotonic variation in the polyelectrolyte size with the increase in the electrostatic strength, and, monovalent ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Potential fluctuations in graphene due to correlated charged impurities in substrate
We evaluate the autocorrelation function of the electrostatic potential in doped graphene due to nearby charged impurities. The screening of those impurities is described by a combination of the polarization function for graphene in random phase ...

Abstract Electrification of ice has been studied for over half a century, mostly in the context of atmospheric science. Here, the polarizability and natural thermovoltage of a substrate‐bound frost sheet are exploited for frost removal by placing an actively charged electrode overhead.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Parallel-plate and spherical capacitors in Born-Infeld electrostatics: An analytical study
In 1934, Max Born and Leopold Infeld suggested and developed a nonlinear modification of Maxwell electrodynamics, in which the electrostatic self-energy of an electron was a finite value.
