Lowering of Electrostatic Actuator Driving Voltage and Increasing Generated Force Using Spontaneous Polarization of Ferroelectric Nematic Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, 2022
Although electrostatic actuators have a simple structure and are lightweight, their range of application is limited because a high applied voltage of more than several kilovolts is required for practical use. Since the force acting between the electrodes

Embedded Ferroelectric Nanoclusters Can Drive Polarization Reversal in a Non‐Ferroelectric Polar Film via the Proximity Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric nanoclusters create local internal fields in a normally non‐switchable polar film because of polarization mismatch at their interfaces. That field opposes polarization in the regions with larger polarization and reinforces polarization in the regions with smaller polarization.

Reconfiguring smart structures using phase space connections [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Structures are traditionally designed to be stable. However, unstable configurations (such as buckling) can in principle be controlled in smart structures using embedded sensors and actuators.

Simultaneous Enhancement of Performance and Stability in Dual‐Gate a‐IGZO Thin‐Film Transistors via Single‐Step Laser Annealing for Capacitor‐Less DRAM

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A single‐step laser annealing strategy is presented for dual‐gate a‐IGZO TFTs. The steep thermal gradient induces graded oxygen doping in the channel and simultaneous WOx removal at the contacts, enabling concurrent interface and contact engineering.

Measurement of Flow Characteristics in a Bubbling Fluidized Bed Using Electrostatic Sensor Arrays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fluidized beds are widely applied in a range of industrial processes. In order to maintain the efficient operation of a fluidized bed, the flow parameters in the bed should be monitored continuously. In this paper, electrostatic sensor arrays are used to
