Unraveling the excitation mechanisms of highly oblique lower band chorus waves

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2016
Excitation mechanisms of highly oblique, quasi‐electrostatic lower band chorus waves are investigated using Van Allen Probes observations near the equator of the Earth's magnetosphere. Linear growth rates are evaluated based on in situ, measured electron

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Evolution and characteristics of global pc5 ULF waves during a high solar wind speed interval [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present an interval of extremely long-lasting narrow-band Pc5 pulsations during the recovery phase of a large geomagnetic storm. These pulsations occurred continuously for many hours and were observed throughout the magnetosphere and in the dusk ...

Ion-Beam-Excited, Electrostatic, Ion Cyclotron Instability

open access: yes, 1977
The stability limits of the ion‐beam‐excited, electrostatic, ion cyclotron instability were investigated in a Q‐machine plasma where the electrons could be heated by microwaves. In agreement with theory, the beam energy necessary for excitation decreased

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

High Power Laser-Grating Interaction

open access: yes, 2011
A system which presents a periodic optical structure is usually referred to as a photonic structure, for its light manipulation capabilities. The most simple one dimensional photonic structure that can be made of metallic material is a diffraction ...

Continuous batch synthesis with atmospheric-pressure microwave plasmas

open access: yesiScience
Summary: Plasmas under atmospheric pressure offer a high-temperature environment for material synthesis, but electrode ablation compromises purity. Here, we introduce an atmospheric-pressure microwave plasma (AMP) operated without electrodes to overcome ...

Electrostatic Plasma Instabilities Excited by a High-Frequency Electric Field

open access: yesThe Physics of Fluids, 1970
The electrostatic plasma waves excited by a uniform, alternating electric field of arbitrary intensity are studied on the basis of the Vlasov equation; their dispersion relation, which involves the determinant of either of two infinite matrices, is derived.
