Temporal Trends and Short‐ and Long‐Term Mortality of People With Acute Myocardial Infarction and Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Nationwide Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We investigated whether a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) affects the quality of inpatient acute myocardial infarction (AMI) care and long‐term mortality post‐AMI. Methods We analyzed data from 784,091 adults, 6,047 with a diagnosis of RA, from England and Wales hospitalized with AMI between 2005 and 2019 from the Myocardial Ischaemia ...

An Advanced Electrostatic Particle Simulation Algorithm for Implicit Time Integration

open access: yes, 1995
We have developed an advanced electrostatic macro-scale implicit particle simulation code (AMACS-ES), which enables us to simulate low-frequency plasma wave phenomena with large spatial scale length.

Parametric excitation of a micro Coriolis mass flow sensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We demonstrate that a micro Coriolis mass flow sensor can be excited in its torsional movement by applying parametric excitation. Using AC-bias voltages for periodic electrostatic spring softening, the flow-filled tube exhibits a steady vibration at ...

Electrostatic Spectral Tuning Maps for Biological Chromophores

open access: yes, 2019
The mechanism by which the absorption wavelength of a molecule is modified by a protein is known as spectral tuning. Spectral tuning is often achieved by electrostatic interactions that stabilize/destabilize or modify the shape of the excited and ground ...

Transitions from electrostatic to electromagnetic whistler wave excitation

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas, 2004
At frequencies below the electron cyclotron and above the lower hybrid frequency in a magnetoplasma, the refractive index is anisotropic and shows resonances at certain angles caused by electron inertia. For a radiating antenna in a plasma, the short wavelengths near this resonance angle may contribute to the radiation pattern of the antenna.

Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Vibration suppression in MEMS devices using electrostatic forces

open access: yes, 2016
This paper investigates the use of electrostatic forces for vibration control of MEMS devices. A micro beam subject to electrostatic loading is considered. The electrostatic forces cause softening nonlinearity and their amplitudes are proportional to the

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.
