Quantitative measurement of the surface charge density

open access: yes, 2010
We present a method of measuring the charge density on dielectric surfaces. Similar to electrostatic force microscopy we record the electrostatic interaction between the probe and the sample surface, but at large tip-sample distances.

Chiral‐Induced Spin‐Polarized Molecular Switching in a Magneto‐Controlled 2D System using Electrical Readouts

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Through molecular engineering, an unconventional chiral 2D platform based on covalently functionalized 2D germanane achieved magneto‐controlled spin‐dependent electron transport, which can be further tuned through the enantiomeric configuration of the chiral ligand.

Charge ordering, ferroelectric, and magnetic domains in LuFe2O4 observed by scanning probe microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes
LuFe2O4 is a multiferroic system which exhibits charge order, ferroelectricity, and ferrimagnetism simultaneously below similar to 230 K. The ferroelectric/charge order domains of LuFe2O4 are imaged with both piezoresponse force microscopy (PFM) and ...

Internal hydration properties of single bacterial endospores probed by electrostatic force microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We show that the internal hydration properties of single Bacillus cereus endospores in air under different relative humidity (RH) conditions can be determined through the measurement of its electric permittivity by means of quantitative electrostatic ...

Recent Advances in Hafnium Oxide Nanomaterials: From Controlled Synthesis, Structure, and Surface Engineering to Biomedical Applications

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Hafnium oxide (HfO2) nanoparticles (NPs), derived from a rare‐metal element, have gained increasing attention as a versatile class of functional nanostructures with unique optical, dielectric, and surface properties that enable diverse biomedical applications. As a representative rare‐metal oxide, HfO2 NPs with well‐defined architectures offer

Single to three nucleotide polymorphisms assay of miRNA-21 using DNA capped gold nanoparticle-electrostatic force microscopy system

open access: yesMicro and Nano Systems Letters, 2019
Aberrant expression of microRNA (miRNA) in biological cells is crucial evidence for early diagnosis of cancer. Improvements in molecular detection techniques enabled miRNA to be detected in human blood obtained from liquid biopsies (e.g., Polymerase ...

Laser-controlled field effect in graphene/hexagonal boron nitride heterostructures

open access: yes, 2018
The possibility of modification of the local properties of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) by laser irradiation is investigated. Investigations conducted using both Raman spectroscopy and electrostatic force microscopy were performed.

Impact of Electrostatic Forces in Contact Mode Scanning Force Microscopy

open access: yes, 2010
In this $\ll$ contribution we address the question to what extent surface charges affect contact-mode scanning force microscopy measurements. % We therefore designed samples where we could generate localized electric field distributions near the surface ...

Electron Channeling Contrast Imaging of Ferroelastic Domains

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 13, 3 March 2026.
A simple scanning electron microscopy technique, electron channeling contrast imaging, unveils nanoscale ferroelastic domains and their coupling to functional properties in oxide heterostructures. The work demonstrates high‐resolution mapping of both surface and buried domains, broadening the experimental toolbox for ferroic and quantum oxide systems ...
