On the element free Galerkin method in the static-analysis for the 2-D elastic-linear problem

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 1999
The Element Free Galerkin (EFG) method is a mesh less method for solving partial differential equations in which the trial and test functions employed in the discretization process result from moving least square interpolations (weak form of the ...

Optimal influence cover for an element free Galerkin MFree method based on artificial neural network

open access: yesComptes Rendus. Mécanique, 2020
The present investigation presents an efficient meshless method based on the weak form of an element-free-Galerkin method. The formulation of the numerical solution was conducted using an artificial neural network (ANN) approach to compute the optimal ...

A Convergent Fourier Spectral Galerkin Method for the Fractional Camassa–Holm Equation

open access: yesNumerical Methods for Partial Differential Equations, Volume 42, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT We analyze a Fourier spectral Galerkin method for the fractional Camassa–Holm (fCH) equation involving a fractional Laplacian of exponent α∈[1,2]$$ \alpha \in \left[1,2\right] $$ with periodic boundary conditions. The semi‐discrete scheme preserves both mass and energy invariants of the fCH equation.

Bounds for quantities of interest and adaptivity in the element‐free Galerkin method [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2008
AbstractA novel approach to implicit residual‐type error estimation in mesh‐free methods and an adaptive refinement strategy are presented. This allows computing upper and lower bounds of the error in energy norm with the ultimate goal of obtaining bounds for outputs of interest.

Spatiotemporal Assessment of Groundwater Interactions With a Regulated River: A Case Study of the Nechako River, Canada

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 42, Issue 6, Page 1172-1187, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Regulated rivers represent complex hydrological systems where groundwater–surface water interactions are governed by natural conditions and human interventions. This study investigates the spatiotemporal dynamics of groundwater–surface water exchanges in the Nechako River, British Columbia (Canada), using numerical simulations.

Free Bars in Straight Channels: Pattern Formation far Beyond Criticality

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Earth Surface, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Bar formation plays a central role in river morphodynamics and has been extensively studied by means of analytical theories, flume experiments and numerical simulations. In this study, we investigate strongly nonlinear mode competition and free bar dynamics using a spectral numerical model. Starting from near‐flat random bed initial conditions,

On the use of reduced integration in combination with discontinuous Galerkin discretization: application to volumetric and shear locking problems

open access: yesAdvanced Modeling and Simulation in Engineering Sciences, 2018
In the present work, the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method is applied to linear elasticity for two-dimensional and three-dimensional settings. A locking-free element formulation based on reduced integration and physically-based hourglass stabilization ...

Leaky Sewers Hydraulically Disconnect from Groundwater: A Proof‐of‐Concept

open access: yesGroundwater, Volume 64, Issue 4, Page 483-497, July/August 2026.
In this study, we newly demonstrate that leaky pipes can become hydraulically disconnected from the underlying groundwater—a phenomenon analogous to river–groundwater interactions. Through numerical modeling, we show that, as the groundwater table declines, the leakage flux from the pipe (in absolute terms) initially increases until a critical depth ...
