Design and experimental demonstration of feedback adaptive RMP ELM controller toward complete long pulse ELM suppression on KSTAR

Physics of Plasmas, 2022
Operation of a fusion power plant requires robust edge localized mode (ELM) suppression simultaneously with high plasma performance. In this paper, we describe a novel feedback adaptive resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) ELM controller designed to address this problem by achieving optimized ELM suppression through the advanced application of 3D RMPs.

Study of in-vessel nonaxisymmetric ELM suppression coil concepts for ITER

Nuclear Fusion, 2008
Large Type-I edge-localized mode (ELM) heat pulses may limit the life of divertor targets in a burning plasma. Recent experiments show that pitch-resonant nonaxisymmetric magnetic perturbations of the plasma edge of 0.0005 or less of the main magnetic field offer a useful solution, but there is little room in the presently designed ITER for even small ...

ELM suppression by resonant magnetic perturbations at DIII-D

2009 23rd IEEE/NPSS Symposium on Fusion Engineering, 2009
Edge localized mode (ELM) suppression by resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) is being studied at DIII-D with ITER-similar plasma shapes and edge collisionalities. Suppression at low collisionality correlates with overlap of vacuum magnetic field islands in a quantified edge layer at moderate q.
