Restoring Iron Homeostasis via Smoothened Inhibition: A Novel Strategy Against Hearing Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
. ABSTRACT Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) induced by noise or aminoglycoside antibiotics is a significant public health concern without any FDA‐approved pharmaceutical therapies. Dysregulation of iron homeostasis and its subsequently induced ferroptosis has increasingly been identified as a key mechanism underlying cochlear hair cell (HC) damage ...

Radiatively tamed divertor thermal loading in resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP)-driven, ELM-crash-suppressed plasmas

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Edge-localized-modes (ELMs) suppression by non-axisymmetric resonant-magnetic-perturbation (RMP) provides the way to reach high performance fusion plasmas without a threatening level of transient heat fluxes to the walls of fusion devices.

Semiconducting Polymer Nanoparticles Enable Light‐Controlled Bidirectional Modulation of Nitric Oxide in Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bimodal modulation of nitric oxide in endothelial cells is achieved by light‐sensitive polymer nanoparticles. In dark, P3HT/PEDOT:PSS NPs boost intracellular ·NO, upregulate both endothelial and induced nitric oxide synthase, and drive a metabolic shift toward glycolysis.

Overview of the JET results in support to ITER [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The 2014–2016 JET results are reviewed in the light of their significance for optimising the ITER research plan for the active and non-active operation. More than 60 h of plasma operation with ITER first wall materials successfully took place since its

A Nanobody‐LNP Platform for Targeting and Relicensing Dendritic Cells for Potent Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Plastin‐2 (PLS2) is identified as a dual‐function receptor on DCs that mediates both nanoparticle uptake and immunomodulation. A nanobody‐LNP platform is engineered to integrate antigen delivery with relicensing DCs. The therapeutic strategy elicits potent anti‐tumor T cell responses and leads to significant inhibition of established tumors in vivo ...

The simulation of ELM control by the advanced divertor configuration in EAST

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Edge localized modes (ELMs) are effectively suppressed in the ‘quasi-snowflake’ (QSF) divertor discharges, which has been observed in the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST).

Mechanoadaptation via Myosin Cytoplasmic Redistribution Protects Circulating Tumor Cells From Shear‐induced Death During Hematogenous Dissemination

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates how CTCs survive varying shear stress during hematogenous metastasis. We uncover a self‐protection mechanism, by which non‐adherent CTCs adapt to high shearing milieu through accumulated cytoplasmic myosin‐mediated disruption of myosin‐actin binding, attenuating force transmission into chromatin to protect CTCs from shear ...

Active tungsten expulsion in ELM-absent H-mode plasmas via on-demand ELM triggering with lithium granule injection

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
Lithium granules gravitationally injected into the upper X -point region demonstrated on-demand edge-localized modes (ELM) triggering in otherwise ELM-suppressed H-mode plasmas on the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak. Sub-mm lithium granules

ELM triggering conditions for the integrated modeling of H-mode plasmas

open access: yes, 2004
Recent advances in the integrated modeling of ELMy H-mode plasmas are presented. A model for the H-mode pedestal and for the triggering of ELMs predicts the height, width, and shape of the H-mode pedestal and the frequency and width of ELMs. Formation of

Operational Space and Plasma Performance with an RMP-ELM Suppressed Edge

open access: yes
The operational space and global performance of plasmas with edge-localized modes (ELMs) suppressed by resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) are surveyed by comparing AUG, DIII-D, EAST, and KSTAR stationary operating points. RMP-ELM suppression is achieved over a range of plasma currents, toroidal fields, and RMP toroidal mode numbers.
