Elongation Factor P and the Control of Translation Elongation

Annual Review of Microbiology, 2017
Elongation factor P (EF-P) binds to ribosomes requiring assistance with the formation of oligo-prolines. In order for EF-P to associate with paused ribosomes, certain tRNAs with specific d-arm residues must be present in the peptidyl site, e.g., tRNAPro.

Translation Elongation

2014
The synthesis of proteins in eukaryotes is typically divided into four steps, i.e. initiation, elongation, termination and ribosome recycling. This key biological event is tightly regulated by the cell. Under condition of increased demand or reduced production of cellular energy the cell can downregulate this process.

Plant Elongator—Protein Complex of Diverse Activities Regulates Growth, Development, and Immune Responses [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2020
Contrary to the conserved Elongator composition in yeast, animals, and plants, molecular functions and catalytic activities of the complex remain controversial.

ELONGATION AND ENCLOSURE

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 2005
Previous work suggested that elongation, horizontal area, and the boundary material might influence impressions of enclosure. This article describes an experiment in which these three factors were crossed. Ratings of open/enclosed by 15 respondents on 16 plazas indicated that the elongation ratio (range: 1:1 up to 1:1.8) had the ...

The elongation of the mandible

American Journal of Orthodontics, 1967
A SATISFACTORY method for predicting mandibular elongation has not been reported, despite the importance of reliable predictions in orthodontic treatment. Apart from the difficulties of planning treatment without reliable forecasts of growth, the precise results of treatment procedures cannot be assessed reliably if the extent of the changes that would

Elongated styloid process: when is it really elongated?

Dentomaxillofacial Radiology, 2004
The styloid process (SP) is often denoted as elongated when it is longer than 30 mm or 33 mm. These dimensions, based on early reports, do not respect the natural variation of the SP. The aim of this study is to investigate the natural variation of the length of the SP.

Kinetics of DNA elongation

Doklady Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2017
A mathematical model of the DNA elongation stage is proposed, and a formula for calculating the characteristic time of doubling a DNA strand consisting of a large numbers of nucleotides was derived. It is shown that, when the number of nucleotides is greater than 50, it is fair to use a linear dependence of the elongation time on the number of ...

Wasted by an elongation factor

Trends in Genetics, 1998
Some features of the wasted mouse phenotype are shared with the human autosomal recessive disorders ataxia–telangiectasia (AT) (caused by defects in the ATM gene) and Nijmegen breakage syndrome (NBS). These are immunodeficiency, ataxia, chromosomal instability and hypersensitivity of lymphocytes to ionizing radiation.

Elongate Coarctation of the Aorta

Archives of Surgery, 1959
Four patients have undergone surgery for the treatment of elongate coarctation of the aorta during the past 10 years at either the Cook County or the Presbyterian Hospital of Chicago. We are presenting the salient features in these cases. Report of Cases Case 1.

Elongation factors on the ribosome

Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 2005
The ribosome is a complex macromolecular assembly capable of translating mRNA sequence into amino acid sequence. The adaptor molecule of translation is tRNA, but the delivery of aminoacyl-tRNAs--the primary substrate of the ribosome--relies on the formation of a ternary complex with elongation factor Tu (EF-Tu) and GTP.
