Genetic Diversity among Rose Rosette Virus Isolates: A Roadmap towards Studies of Gene Function and Pathogenicity

open access: yesPathogens, 2023
The phylogenetic relationships of ninety-five rose rosette virus (RRV) isolates with full-length genomic sequences were analyzed. These isolates were recovered mostly from commercial roses that are vegetatively propagated rather than grown from seed ...

A new emaravirus discovered in Pistacia from Turkey [PDF]

open access: yesVirus Research, 2019
High throughput sequencing was performed on total pooled RNA from six Turkish trees of Pistacia showing different viral symptoms. The analysis produced some contigs showing similarity with RNAs of emaraviruses. Seven distinct negative-sense, single-stranded RNAs were identified as belonging to a new putative virus infecting pistachio.

Identification of QTLs for Reduced Susceptibility to Rose Rosette Disease in Diploid Roses

open access: yesPathogens, 2022
Resistance to rose rosette disease (RRD), a fatal disease of roses (Rosa spp.), is a high priority for rose breeding. As RRD resistance is time-consuming to phenotype, the identification of genetic markers for resistance could expedite breeding efforts ...

Commodity risk assessment of Quercus robur plants from the UK

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 21, Issue 10, October 2023., 2023
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High‐risk plants, plant products and other objects’. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by plants of Quercus robur imported from the UK as:

A novel emaravirus is associated with redbud yellow ringspot disease [PDF]

open access: yesVirus Research, 2016
Yellow ringspot is the only virus-like disease reported in redbud (Cercis spp.) with symptoms including vein clearing, chlorotic ringspots and oak-leaf pattern. A putative new emaravirus was present in all trees displaying typical yellow ringspot symptoms and the name redbud yellow ringspot associated virus is proposed.

Commodity risk assessment of Crataegus monogyna plants from the UK

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 21, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High risk plants, plant products and other objects’. Taking into account the available scientific information, including the technical information provided by ...

Onsite detection of plant viruses using isothermal amplification assays

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 20, Issue 10, Page 1859-1873, October 2022., 2022
Summary Plant diseases caused by viruses limit crop production and quality, resulting in significant losses. However, options for managing viruses are limited; for example, as systemic obligate parasites, they cannot be killed by chemicals. Sensitive, robust, affordable diagnostic assays are needed to detect the presence of viruses in plant materials ...

Investigating the Pea Virome in Germany—Old Friends and New Players in the Field(s)

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Peas are an important legume for human and animal consumption and are also being used as green manure or intermediate crops to sustain and improve soil condition. Pea production faces constraints from fungal, bacterial, and viral diseases.

Phylogenetics and evolution of wheat streak mosaic virus: Its global origin and the source of the Australian epidemic

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 71, Issue 8, Page 1660-1673, October 2022., 2022
Our analyses of new Australian and previously obtained sequences from other continents provide important information about the world wheat streak mosaic virus population, its global origin and the source of the Australian epidemic. Abstract Wheat streak mosaic tritimovirus (WSMV) seriously damages wheat worldwide. We report analyses of new complete ORF
