Hydrogen environment embrittlement [PDF]

open access: yes
Hydrogen embrittlement is classified into three types: internal reversible hydrogen embrittlement, hydrogen reaction embrittlement, and hydrogen environment embrittlement.

Study to minimize hydrogen embrittlement of ultrahigh-strength steels [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Hydrogen-stress cracking in high-strength steels is influenced by hydrogen content of the material and its hydrogen absorption tendency. Non-embrittling cleaning, pickling, and electroplating processes are being studied.

Magnetic Textiles: A Review of Materials, Fabrication, Properties, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetic textiles (M‐textiles) are emerging as a programmable materials platform that merges magnetic matter with hierarchical textile structures. This article consolidates magnetic material classes, textile architectures, and fabrication and magnetization strategies, revealing structure–property–function relationships that govern magneto‐mechanical ...

Failure and impact behavior of facade panels made of glass fiber reinforced cement(GRC) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
GRC is a cementitious composite material made up of a cement mortar matrix and chopped glass fibers. Due to its outstanding mechanical properties, GRC has been widely used to produce cladding panels and some civil engineering elements.

Hydrogen Embrittlement Understood [PDF]

open access: yesMetallurgical and Materials Transactions A, 2015
The connection between hydrogen-enhanced plasticity and the hydrogen-induced fracture mechanism and pathway is established through examination of the evolved microstructural state immediately beneath fracture surfaces including voids, “quasi-cleavage,” and intergranular surfaces.

Effect of carbides on high-temperature aging embrittlement in 12%Cr martensitic heat-resistant steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2019
It is well-known that the 9–12%Cr martensitic heat-resistant steels own excellent mechanical properties; yet, in the case of aging embrittlement mechanism, little has been documented with carbides effect.

Annealing‐Induced Plasticity and Strengthening in Metallic Glasses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work challenges the dogma that annealing inevitably embrittles metallic glasses. We demonstrate that sub‐Tg annealing, guided by positive mixing enthalpy and constrained kinetics, can drive a self‐organized compositional fluctuation that creates an interface‐free heterogeneous structure.

Exploring the effects of ambient conditions on the cryogenic cooling times of offshore structures: towards optimising sustainability and the decommissioning timescale

open access: yesSustainability Science and Technology
This study investigates the influence of ambient conditions on cryogenic cooling times for medium-carbon steel-grade ISO EN 1.0456 (ASTM A333 Gr.6) processing pipes, focusing on the air velocity, ambient temperature, and cooling medium.

Improving Hydrogen Embrittlement Resistance of Hot-Stamped 1500 MPa Steel Parts That Have Undergone a Q&P Treatment by the Design of Retained Austenite and Martensite Matrix

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Hydrogen embrittlement is one of the largest obstacles against the commercialisation of ultra-high strength quenching and partitioning (Q&P) steels with ultimate tensile strength over 1500 MPa, including the hot stamped steel parts that have undergone a ...
