Integrin β1 coordinates survival and morphogenesis of the embryonic lineage upon implantation and pluripotency transition

open access: yesCell Reports, 2021
Summary: At implantation, the embryo establishes contacts with the maternal endometrium. This stage is associated with a high incidence of preclinical pregnancy losses. While the maternal factors underlying uterine receptivity have been investigated, the

Modeling human trophoblast, the placental epithelium at the maternal fetal interface. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Appropriate human trophoblast lineage specification and differentiation is crucial for the establishment of normal placentation and maintenance of pregnancy. However, due to the lack of proper modeling systems, the molecular mechanisms of these processes

Evolutionary divergence of embryo implantation in primates

open access: yesPhilosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, 2022
Implantation of the conceptus into the uterus is absolutely essential for successful embryo development. In humans, our understanding of this process has remained rudimentary owing to the inaccessibility of early implantation stages. Non-human primates recapitulate many aspects of human embryo development and provide crucial insights into trophoblast ...

Revisiting the Transcriptome Landscape of Pig Embryo Implantation Site at Single-Cell Resolution

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2022
Litter size is one of the most economically important traits in commercial pig farming. It has been estimated that approximately 30% of porcine embryos are lost during the peri-implantation period.

Immunological Role of the Maternal Uterine Microbiome in Pregnancy: Pregnancies Pathologies and Alterated Microbiota

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2020
Understanding what happens at the time of embryo implantation has been the subject of significant research. Investigators from many differing fields including maternal fetal medicine, microbiology, genetics, reproductive endocrinology and immunology have

Ultrastructure of cytoplasmic fragments in human cleavage stage embryos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Purpose: The goal of this study was to evaluate the ultrastructure of cytoplasmic fragments along with the effect of cytoplasmic fragment and perivitelline space coarse granulation removal (cosmetic microsurgery) from embryos before embryo transfer on ...

The mechanism of hydrosalpinx in embryo implantation [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Reproduction, 2001
Hydrosalpinx adversely affects embryo implantation and contributes to poor implantation rates post embryo transfer. Embryo transport depends on concomitant intrauterine fluid motion induced by uterine wall motility, the result of spontaneous myometrial contractions towards the fundus. The uterine dynamics of five patients with hydrosalpinx were recorded

Using Unlabeled Information of Embryo Siblings from the Same Cohort Cycle to Enhance In Vitro Fertilization Implantation Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2023
High‐content time‐lapse embryo imaging assessed by machine learning is revolutionizing the field of in vitro fertilization (IVF). However, the vast majority of IVF embryos are not transferred to the uterus, and these masses of embryos with unknown ...

Uterine Selection of Human Embryos at Implantation [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2014
Human embryos frequently harbor large-scale complex chromosomal errors that impede normal development. Affected embryos may fail to implant although many first breach the endometrial epithelium and embed in the decidualizing stroma before being rejected via mechanisms that are poorly understood.

LIN28B Promotes Cancer Cell Dissemination and Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Children diagnosed with high‐risk neuroblastoma have a 5‐year event‐free survival rate of less than 50% and poor outcomes after recurrence. Deregulation of the LIN28B oncogene can be addressed in these patients. Upregulation of LIN28B is shown to support the metastatic cascade.
