The transformer gene controls sexual development in Drosophila suzukii

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The transformer gene plays a key role in the genetic pathway for sexual development in Drosophila suzukii Abstract The genetic network of sex determination in the model organism Drosophila melanogaster was investigated in great detail. Such knowledge not only advances our understanding of the evolution and regulation of sexual dimorphism in insects ...

Pear‐Shaped Eggs Evolved to Maximize the Surface Area‐to‐Volume Ratio, Increase Metabolism, and Shorten Incubation Time in Birds

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Some eggs are pyriform as this may attain a larger surface area‐to‐volume ratio making them grow and hatch quicker. ABSTRACT Bird eggs can be spherical, ellipsoid, ovoid, or pear‐shaped (pyriform), the latter being the most complex. There is however no unambiguous evolutionary/adaptive explanation for this final, exotic shape.

Molecular Signatures and Functional Pathways of Human Monocytes and Macrophages in Allergy: An EAACI AllergoOncology Scoping Review

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT AllergoOncology explores the intersection of allergic diseases and cancer, focusing on shared immune mechanisms. While monocytes and macrophages are extensively studied in cancer, their roles in allergic diseases remain underexplored. To address this gap, we conducted a scoping review to systematically characterize the molecular landscape and ...

Update on andrological effects of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and COVID‐19: An overview review

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Evidence indicates a wide range of andrological alterations in patients with the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome CoronaVirus 2 (SARS‐CoV‐2) infection and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID‐19). Aim To provide an update on the andrological effects of SARS‐CoV‐2 infection and COVID‐19.

Spatial transcriptomics mapping of immune cell and TGFβ signalling pathway heterogeneity in testicular germ cell tumours

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Testicular germ cell tumours (TGCTs) are amongst the most common malignancies in young men, and their incidence is increasing worldwide. Tissue heterogeneity hampers efforts to understand how TGCT precursors (termed germ cell neoplasia in situ; GCNIS) emerge and progress, restricting elucidation of new strategies for diagnosis and ...
