Integration of kinetic ions in a three‐dimensional Monte‐Carlo neutral transport code

open access: yesContributions to Plasma Physics, Volume 60, Issue 5-6, June-July 2020., 2020
Abstract Charged particles of species different from the major constituents of a plasma might not reach local thermodynamic equilibrium during their lifespan. Such low collisional ions render the often‐used fluid description, assuming Maxwellian velocity distribution, as insufficient. Hence, kinetic treatment of such minorities becomes inevitable.

Plasma response impact on RMP divertor footprint modeling for KSTAR

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2023
The striation pattern of heat loads on the divertor targets is determined by the plasma response to external resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) applied for suppression of edge localized modes (ELMs).

3D simulations of gas puff effects on edge plasma and ICRF coupling in JET [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Recent JET (ITER-Like Wall) experiments have shown that the fueling gas puffed from different locations of the vessel can result in different scrape-off layer (SOL) density profiles and therefore different radio frequency (RF) coupling.

Experimental observations and modelling of radiation asymmetries during N2 seeding in LHD

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2021
N2 gas has been seeded in the Large Helical Device (LHD) to reduce the divertor heat load through enhanced radiation. Radiation is observed by two imaging bolometers, viewing the same poloidal cross-section from top and bottom ports, at a location which ...

EMC3-EIRENE modelling of the toroidally asymmetric heat flux distribution with neon impurity injection on EAST

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2021
The heat flux deposition on the divertor targets with neon impurity injection has been investigated for EAST tokamak with the help of three-dimensional (3D) edge transport code EMC3-EIRENE.

Three-dimensional structure of radiative cooling in impurity seeded plasmas in the Large Helical Device

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2022
Three-dimensionally localization of radiative cooling due to nitrogen (N2) seeding for divertor detachment was detected experimentally. Since the localization along some magnetic field lines induces toroidal asymmetry of heat load reduction on divertor ...

Modelling of the ICRF induced E x B convection in the scrape-off-layer of ASDEX Upgrade [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In magnetic controlled fusion devices, plasma heating with radio-frequency (RF) waves in the ion cyclotron (IC) range of frequency relies on the electric field of the fast wave to heat the plasma.

Integrated modelling: Coupling of surface evolution and plasma-impurity transport

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2020
During the interaction of the scrape off layer (SOL) plasma with the first wall the evolution of both wall and plasma are tightly coupled: The erosion of the first wall leads to an impurity concentration in the plasma which affects the particle and power

Toroidally symmetric/asymmetric effect on the divertor flux due to neon/nitrogen seeding in LHD

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
Toroidal distributions of divertor particle flux during neon (Ne) and nitrogen (N2) seeded discharges were investigated in the Large Helical Device (LHD).

Simulation of impurity transport in the peripheral plasma due to the emission of dust in long pulse discharges on the Large Helical Device

open access: yesNuclear Materials and Energy, 2017
Two different plasma termination processes by dust emission were observed in long pulse discharges in the Large Helical Device. One is a plasma termination caused by large amounts of carbon dust released from a lower divertor region.
