Non-linear simulations of the TCV Scrape-Off Layer
To investigate the mechanisms leading to the heat deposition onto the first wall in the Scrape-Off Layer (SOL), we perform dedicated numerical non-linear simulations of the SOL plasma dynamics of a TCV discharge using the GBS code. The simulated parallel

Turbulence in the near scrape-off layer towards the L-mode density limit in ASDEX-Upgrade
The L-mode density limit in ASDEX Upgrade is investigated with focus on the scrape-off layer. We observe a chain of events that involves the collapse of the E×B outer shear layer (just outside the separatrix), widening of the electron pressure fall-off ...

A spectral filament model for turbulent transport and scrape off layer width in circular geometry
Radial transport in scrape off layer is commonly attributed to the intermittent convection of plasma filaments. These filaments are observed in experiments, and commonly reproduced by turbulent simulations.

The scrape-off layer parallel heat flux decay lengths measured at ST40, a high field, low aspect ratio spherical tokamak, have been observed to bifurcate into two groups.

Detached scrape‐off layer tokamak plasmas [PDF]
The equilibrium and stability of scrape-off layer plasmas are considered using a one-dimensional treatment of coupled heat conduction and pressure balance equations. It is found that, for sufficiently low-temperature and high neutral density, a region of greatly reduced power flux to the endplate can be achieved.

On the interaction of scrape off layer filaments [PDF]
Abstract The interaction of L-mode and inter-ELM scrape-off layer (SOL) filaments is investigated by simulating the dynamics of two seeded density perturbations with different initial separation. A numerical campaign of 2D and 3D simulations is presented to explore the effect that different filaments ...

ELM transport in the JET scrape-off layer [PDF]
This contribution summarizes a number of aspects of the experimental and modelling programme at JET aimed at improving the characterization and understanding of edge localized mode (ELM) transport in the scrape-off layer (SOL). Divertor target energy deposition asymmetries favouring the inner target for the ion B × ∇B drift directed towards the X-point

The search for scenarios in which tolerable power exhaust is combined with good confinement must involve high separatrix densities. We present here the first infrared thermography measurements at ASDEX Upgrade in a high density, high confinement H-mode ...

Impact of ion temperature anisotropy on 2D edge-plasma transport
A model of ion temperature anisotropy for 2D plasma transport in the scrape-off layer (SOL) of tokamaks is described and implemented in the UEDGE fluid transport code.

Blob interactions in 2D scrape-off layer simulations [PDF]
Interaction of coherent structures known as blobs in the scrape-off layer of magnetically confined plasmas is investigated. Isolated and interacting seeded blobs, as well as full plasma turbulence, are studied by two-dimensional numerical simulations.
