First EMC3-Eirene simulations of the TCV snowflake divertor [PDF]
One of the approaches to solve the heat load problem in a divertor tokamak is the so called 'snowflake' (SF) configuration, a magnetic equilibrium with two nearby x-points and two additional divertor legs. Here we report on the first EMC3-Eirene simulations of plasma-and neutral particle transport in the scrape-off layer of a series of TCV SF ...

EMC3-Eirene simulations of the tungsten injection experiments in Tore Supra [PDF]
Abstract We report on the first full 3D EMC3-Eirene simulations of the bulk plasma, neutral gas and W impurity transport in Tore Supra (TS). Three configurations are addressed: (A) the high field side-, (B) bottom- and (C) low field side limited case and compared to Mach probe measurements at the top of the device.

Integration of kinetic ions in a three‐dimensional Monte‐Carlo neutral transport code
Abstract Charged particles of species different from the major constituents of a plasma might not reach local thermodynamic equilibrium during their lifespan. Such low collisional ions render the often‐used fluid description, assuming Maxwellian velocity distribution, as insufficient. Hence, kinetic treatment of such minorities becomes inevitable.

Plasma response impact on RMP divertor footprint modeling for KSTAR
The striation pattern of heat loads on the divertor targets is determined by the plasma response to external resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) applied for suppression of edge localized modes (ELMs).

Experimental observations and modelling of radiation asymmetries during N2 seeding in LHD
N2 gas has been seeded in the Large Helical Device (LHD) to reduce the divertor heat load through enhanced radiation. Radiation is observed by two imaging bolometers, viewing the same poloidal cross-section from top and bottom ports, at a location which ...

Synthetic plasma edge diagnostics for EMC3-EIRENE, highlighted for Wendelstein 7-X [PDF]
Interpretation of spectroscopic measurements in the edge region of high-temperature plasmas can be a challenge since line of sight integration effects make direct interpretation in terms of quantitative, local emission strengths often impossible. The EMC3-EIRENE code—a 3D fluid edge plasma and kinetic neutral gas transport code—is a suitable tool for ...

Modelling the scrape-off layer of a stellarator is challenging due to the complex magnetic 3D geometry. The here presented study analyses simulations of the scrape-off layer (SOL) of the stellarator Wendelstein 7-X (W7-X) using spatially varying ...

Estimations of edge plasma and impurity performance on HL-2M with EMC3-EIRENE modelling
Abstract The three-dimensional edge transport code EMC3-EIRENE has been employed to investigate the edge plasma behavior and carbon impurity transport in the HuanLiuqi-2M (HL-2M) tokamak. It is found that the outboard divertor target has a narrower flux deposition width and therefore undergoes more intense peak ...

Toroidally symmetric/asymmetric effect on the divertor flux due to neon/nitrogen seeding in LHD
Toroidal distributions of divertor particle flux during neon (Ne) and nitrogen (N2) seeded discharges were investigated in the Large Helical Device (LHD).

Three-dimensionally localization of radiative cooling due to nitrogen (N2) seeding for divertor detachment was detected experimentally. Since the localization along some magnetic field lines induces toroidal asymmetry of heat load reduction on divertor ...
