Chemical Design Model for Emergent Synthetic Catch Bonds

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2020
All primary chemical bonds inherently weaken under increasing tension. Interestingly, nature is able to combine such bonds into protein complexes that accomplish the opposite behavior: they strengthen with increasing tensional force.

Exploring Weak Signals to Design and Prototype for Emergent Futures

open access: yesTemes de Disseny, 2020
While technology and design have progressed greatly, they have also produced imbalances that affect the way we live and work. Additionally, they have also contributed to the use of the planet’s resources to fill our homes with unnecessary devices and ...

DESIGNING FOR EMERGENCE AND INNOVATION: REDESIGNING DESIGN

open access: yesArtifact, 2007
This paper reveals the surprising and counterintuitive truth that design is not always at the forefront of innovation; it is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for the success of products and services. The authors argue that design must harness emergence, for it is only through this bottom-up and massively iterative, unfolding process that new ...

Direct growth of orthorhombic Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 thin films for hysteresis-free MoS2 negative capacitance field-effect transistors

open access: yesnpj 2D Materials and Applications, 2021
Herein, the direct growth of polar orthorhombic phase in Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 (HZO) thin films is reported using Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD). The growth of HZO onto a preheated (700 °C) silicon substrate mimics the rapid thermal annealing, which allows the ...

Studies in Radical Biocracy

open access: yesJournal of Awareness-Based Systems Change
Work to improve the health of a system should look at decision-making because decisions propagate throughout a system, shaping system dynamics. This is especially true for decisions by those with more power, resources, and relationships in a system ...

University Students as Co-creators in Designing Gamification Teaching Activities using Emergent Technologies in Swedish K-12 Education

open access: yesInteraction Design and Architecture(s), 2019
This paper reports on a study exploring the use of university students as co-creators when designing activities for an emergent teaching practice such as gamification, using emergent technologies in a Swedish K-12 education context.

Data-driven statistical modeling of the emergent behavior of biohybrid microrobots

open access: yesAPL Bioengineering, 2020
Multi-agent biohybrid microrobotic systems, owing to their small size and distributed nature, offer powerful solutions to challenges in biomedicine, bioremediation, and biosensing.
