Design for Emergency Management

2023
Through a combination of theory, practice, and a range of interdisciplinary case studies, this book expands how we define and think about the critical role and relationship between design and emergencies. This role extends far beyond aesthetics: the book highlights the urgency of ensuring that a wide range of stakeholders and a diverse representation ...

Designing multi-rover emergent specialization

Proceedings of the 10th annual conference on Genetic and evolutionary computation, 2008
We compare the efficacy of the Enforced Sub-Populations (ESP) and Collective Neuro-Evolution (CONE) methods for designing behavioral specialization in a multi-rover collective behavior task. These methods are tested for Artificial Neural Network (ANN) controller design in an extension of the multi-rover task, where behavioral specialization is known to

Emergent process design

Proceedings of the 27th international conference on Software engineering - ICSE '05, 2005
The typical situation in software developing organizations can be characterized by two extremes: in some organizations or organizational units, software development processes are partly defined, whereas in organizations or organizational units where the processses are well defined, these processes are usually only valid at the project start. For design

Emerging Design

2015
The organization of the twenty-first century requires plasticity; this must be understood as the existence in the here-and-now of ways to work that are defined to operate transversely in relation to strategic objectives. The minimum requirements are horizontal streaming and non-permanence.

Designing Emergency Management

2020
This book looks at the then-nascent emergency management sector in China, specifically the 2003–2012 period, that arose from the 2003 SARS crisis and subsequently set the stage for its responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. Covering not only the amended and new laws and regulations at the national level, the book also includes the rearrangement and ...

Emergency Medical Services System Design

Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America, 1990

Emergency Ferry Landing Design

Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1995
Ferry-landing structures are occasionally subjected to unusually large impacts because of human error, mechanical failure, and adverse environmental conditions. As a result, the landing structure, the vessel, and its contents are often damaged, and the crew and passengers may suffer injuries.

Designing for emergent play

Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Interaction Design and Children, 2012
This paper describes the PhD research on designing for open-ended play environments for children aged 6-8 years old. I discuss my research topic in more detail, as well as the developed design prototype and a first explorative study with this prototype. The focus of this study was on supporting playful experiences in different stages of play.
