ハンタウイルスとは,ブニヤウイルス科ハンタウイルス属に含まれる一群のウイルスを指す総称である.その名は1973年李たちによって分離されたハンターンウイルスに由来する.ヒトに腎症候性出血熱(HFRS)やハンタウイルス肺症候群(HPS)など劇症の感染症をおこすウイルスが含まれる.ハンタウイルスの自然宿主は齧歯類であり,感染個体由来の乾燥した排泄物のエアゾールを介してヒトにも感染する.
