Bonds, Bounds, and Borders: Crafting Hospitality with Unauthorized Migrants in Southern France

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article analyzes the everyday politics of migrant hospitality in rural Southern France. Drawing on four years of fieldwork alongside benevolent residents hosting unauthorized migrants at their home or volunteering in migrant shelters, I consider how residents attempted to make up for the state's abandonment of migrant lives, the ethical ...

New data on the biodiversity and distributional pattern of Coleoptera in the Carpathian landscape

open access: yesTravaux de l'Institut de Speologie Emile Racovitza, 2018
The faunal diversity and distributional pattern of species of Coleoptera in the Carpathians is fragmentarily and disproportionally known, the Buzau Mountains being one of the very poorly investigated geographic area, from coleopterological point of ...

Glomeruloid haemangioma in Erdheim–Chester disease: An atypical skin manifestation associated with elevated vascular endothelial growth factor‐A levels

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, EarlyView.
Glomeruloid haemangiomas and extensive angiomas occurred in a small subset of Erdheim–Chester disease patients, all showing markedly elevated vascular endothelial growth factor‐A (VEGF‐A) levels despite the absence of POEMS (polyneuropathy, organomegaly, M‐spike, and skin disease) syndrome.

Invertebrate communities from the mesovoid shallow substratum of the Carpatho-Euxinic area

open access: yesTravaux de l'Institut de Speologie Emile Racovitza, 2010
Between 1998 and 2008, the authors analyzed from a faunistic and zoogeographic point of view, 5 sites with different types of mesovoid shallow subtratum (MSS) from the karst areas of Dobrogea and the Carpathians.

Taxonomic and functional diversity of benthic foraminifera as a promising proxy for tidewater glacier retreat

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Ice sheets and glaciers globally are losing mass at increasing rates, with the strongest changes occurring at tidewater glaciers. These are rapidly retreating and often transitioning to land‐terminating with implications for sea level change and ecosystem functioning.

Collembolan communities (Hexapoda: Collembola) from the Buzău Land Geopark (Buzău Mountains, Romania)

open access: yesTravaux de l'Institut de Speologie Emile Racovitza, 2018
The authors present the Collembola species collected from the Buzău Land Geopark (Buzău Mountains, Romania). The uniqueness of the Buzău Land Geopark is illustrated by the presence of very rare collembolan species such as Friesea afurcata (Denis, 1926 ...

Mixed Super‐Circles

open access: yesComputer Graphics Forum, EarlyView.
Abstract We introduce mixed super‐circles, a position‐curvature formulation of the original dynamic 2D super‐helix model. Compared to the latter, purely curvature‐based model – the so‐called chained formulation –, the mixed formulation that we propose here drastically reduces the algorithmic complexity of the solving scheme – from quadratic to quasi ...

Geological and hydrogeological research, tools for karst management in the north of the Caraş Gorges (Banat Mountains, Romania)

open access: yesTravaux de l'Institut de Speologie Emile Racovitza, 2010
The karst geosystems functioning frequently implies very quick mass and energy transfers, which make them highly sensitive to any natural or anthropogenic disturbance.
