Assessment of genome complementarity in three beef-on-dairy crossbreds reveals sire-specific effects on production traits with comparable rates of genomic inbreeding reduction

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background Crossbreeding beef bulls with dairy cows can improve the economic value and fitness of calves not entering dairy production owing to increased meat yield and heterosis.

Modeling Impacts of Cold Climates on Vehicle Emissions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This project relates to the research thrust area of ‘environmental impact assessment,' specifically the impact of cold climates on vehicle exhaust emissions. Motor vehicles emit pollutants that are harmful to human.

Modelling global annual N2O and NO emissions from fertilized fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Information from 846 N2O emission measurements in agricultural fields and 99 measurements for NO emissions was used to describe the influence of various factors regulating emissions from mineral soils in models for calculating global N2O and NO emissions.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Implementation of a dry deposition module (DEPAC v3.11_ext) in a large eddy simulation code (DALES v4.4) [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
High-resolution data on reactive nitrogen deposition are needed to inform cost-effective policies. Large eddy simulation models coupled to a dry deposition module present a valuable tool for obtaining these high-resolution data. In this paper we describe

Tree-mediated methane emissions from tropical and temperate peatlands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Methane production and transport processes in peatlands are fairly well understood, but growing evidence for emission of methane through trees has highlighted the need to revisit methane transport processes.

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Satellite-Derived Estimate of City-Level Methane Emissions from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Cities are important sources of anthropogenic methane emissions. Municipal governments can play a role in reducing those emissions to support climate change mitigation, but they need information on the emission rate to contextualize mitigation actions ...

A methane emissions reduction equivalence framework for alternative leak detection and repair programs

open access: yesElementa: Science of the Anthropocene, 2019
Fugitive methane emissions from the oil and gas sector are typically addressed through periodic leak detection and repair surveys. These surveys, conducted manually using handheld leak detection technologies, are time-consuming.

Controllable Introduction of Surface Defects on CH3NH3PbI3 Perovskite

open access: yesNanomaterials, 2022
One of the unique characteristics of semiconductors is the strong dependence of their properties on crystal defects and doping. However, due to the species diversity and low density, it is very difficult to control the type and concentration of the ...
