Machine‐Learning Decomposition Identifies a Big Two Structure in Human Personality with Distinct Neurocognitive Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using machine learning on a mega‐scale global dataset (n = 1,336,840) reveals a robust personality trait architecture beyond the Big Five. A Big Two model, broadly capturing social engagement and internal mentation, defines a geometric space that links personality to neurocognitive profiles.

Benchmark for evaluating emotional regulation ability of large language model

open access: yesTongxin xuebao
To address the lack of emotional regulation assessment in current evaluations of large language model (LLM), an evaluation benchmark for assessing emotional regulation capabilities in LLM was proposed.

A Central Somatic Transmission Mediates Proprioceptive Facilitation of Muscle Pain

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Zhang et al. uncover a novel central mechanism for persistent muscle pain, in which TRPA1 sensitization in MeV proprioceptive neurons enhances somatic secretion. This, in turn, disinhibits descending pain control from neighboring noradrenergic locus coeruleus neurons via local GABAergic circuits, thereby promoting inflammatory muscle pain.

Emotional regulation and Arnold’s self-ideal: a way to flourishment

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology
The convergence of researchers in the fields of flourishing, moral psychology, and social–emotional studies has reached a stage where developing a theory that connects emotional regulation and flourishing is meaningful.

Focused Attention vs. Open Monitoring: An Event-Related Potential Study of Emotion Regulation by Two Distinct Forms of Mindfulness Meditation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This study investigated the effects of two novel forms of 8-week mindfulness meditation training, focused attention (FA) and open monitoring (OM), relative to an established training, mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), on early emotional ...

Systematic review of studies of mental health nurses' experience of anger and of its relationships with their attitudes and practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
IntroductionEmotional regulation is important in mental health nursing practice but individual emotions may require different regulation strategies. There is ample evidence that nurses experience anger specifically during their work, for example when ...

CRP Deficiency Rescues Periodontitis‐Induced Hippocampal Neurogenesis Impairment by Suppressing OPC‐Derived BMP4 Signaling in Rats

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic periodontitis elevates circulating CRP, which enters the hippocampus to upregulate BMP4 in oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs), thereby impairing neurogenesis and inducing anxiety/depression‐like behaviors in rats. Counteracting this pathway, CRP deficiency helps confer functional resilience to OPCs.

The prenatal effects of the Christchurch earthquake on executive function at five years of age : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Educational Psychology at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Despite the frequency of earthquakes, particularly in New Zealand, little is known about the long-term effects that they can have on vulnerable populations, such as mothers and unborn babies.

Emotion regulation strategies and psychosocial well-being in adolescence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
To study whether and how emotion regulation strategies are associated with adolescents' well-being, 633 Italian adolescents completed a survey that measured, using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ; Gross & John, 2003), the strategies of ...

A Tac1‐Expressing Brainstem Pathway Underlies the Pathogenesis of Trigeminal Neuralgia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A critical TG‐Sp5CTac1‐PBNTac1 pathway drives trigeminal neuropathic pain (TNP). Tac1‐expressing parabrachial nucleus (PBNTac1) neurons exhibit heightened responses to innocuous stimuli in TNP, and chemogenetic inhibition of these neurons effectively prevents TNP development.
