Entropy of Financial Time Series Due to the Shock of War
The concept of entropy is not uniquely relevant to the statistical mechanics but, among others, it can play pivotal role in the analysis of a time series, particularly the stock market data.

We propose a compression-based version of the empirical entropy of a finite string over a finite alphabet. Whereas previously one considers the naked entropy of (possibly higher order) Markov processes, we consider the sum of the description of the random variable involved plus the entropy it induces.

An empirical evaluation of entropy-based traffic anomaly detection [PDF]
Entropy-based approaches for anomaly detection are appealing since they provide more fine-grained insights than traditional traffic volume analysis. While previous work has demonstrated the benefits of entropy-based anomaly detection, there has been little effort to comprehensively understand the detection power of using entropy-based analysis of ...

Entropy-based Statistical Analysis of PolSAR Data
Images obtained from coherent illumination processes are contaminated with speckle noise, with polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) imagery as a prominent example.

Conditional entropy of ordinal patterns [PDF]
In this paper we investigate a quantity called conditional entropy of ordinal patterns, akin to the permutation entropy. The conditional entropy of ordinal patterns describes the average diversity of the ordinal patterns succeeding a given ordinal ...

The Computational Structure of Spike Trains [PDF]
Neurons perform computations, and convey the results of those computations through the statistical structure of their output spike trains. Here we present a practical method, grounded in the information-theoretic analysis of prediction, for inferring a ...

Ultrasonic Flaw Echo Enhancement Based on Empirical Mode Decomposition
The detection of flaw echoes in backscattered signals in ultrasonic nondestructive testing can be challenging due to the existence of backscattering noise and electronic noise.

Entropic measures of individual mobility patterns
Understanding human mobility from a microscopic point of view may represent a fundamental breakthrough for the development of a statistical physics for cognitive systems and it can shed light on the applicability of macroscopic statistical laws for ...
