Empirical Maximum Entropy Methods [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2006
A method, which we suggest to call the Empirical Maximum Entropy method, is implicitly present at Maximum Entropy Empirical Likelihood method, as its special, non‐parametric case. From this vantage point the entropy‐based empirical approach to estimation is surveyed.

Criticality in Pareto Optimal Grammars?

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
What are relevant levels of description when investigating human language? How are these levels connected to each other? Does one description yield smoothly into the next one such that different models lie naturally along a hierarchy containing each ...

Entropy of Financial Time Series Due to the Shock of War

open access: yesEntropy, 2023
The concept of entropy is not uniquely relevant to the statistical mechanics but, among others, it can play pivotal role in the analysis of a time series, particularly the stock market data.

On Empirical Entropy

open access: yesCoRR, 2011
We propose a compression-based version of the empirical entropy of a finite string over a finite alphabet. Whereas previously one considers the naked entropy of (possibly higher order) Markov processes, we consider the sum of the description of the random variable involved plus the entropy it induces.

Fault Diagnosis of Planetary Gear Based on Fuzzy Entropy of CEEMDAN and MLP Neural Network by Using Vibration Signal

open access: yesITM Web of Conferences, 2017
A method of planetary gear fault diagnosis based on the fuzzy entropy of complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN) and multi-layer perceptron (MLP) neural network is proposed.

Specific transfer entropy and other state-dependent transfer entropies for continuous-state input-output systems.

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2017
Since its original formulation in 2000, transfer entropy has become an invaluable tool in the toolbox of nonlinear dynamicists working with empirical data.

An empirical evaluation of entropy-based traffic anomaly detection [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 8th ACM SIGCOMM conference on Internet measurement, 2008
Entropy-based approaches for anomaly detection are appealing since they provide more fine-grained insights than traditional traffic volume analysis. While previous work has demonstrated the benefits of entropy-based anomaly detection, there has been little effort to comprehensively understand the detection power of using entropy-based analysis of ...

Ultrasonic Flaw Echo Enhancement Based on Empirical Mode Decomposition

open access: yesSensors, 2019
The detection of flaw echoes in backscattered signals in ultrasonic nondestructive testing can be challenging due to the existence of backscattering noise and electronic noise.

Cognitive Outcome Prediction in Infants With Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy Based on Functional Connectivity and Complexity of the Electroencephalography Signal

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2022
Impaired neurodevelopmental outcome, in particular cognitive impairment, after neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy is a major concern for parents, clinicians, and society.

A novel noise reduction technique for underwater acoustic signals based on complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise, minimum mean square variance criterion and least mean square adaptive filter

open access: yesDefence Technology, 2020
Underwater acoustic signal processing is one of the research hotspots in underwater acoustics. Noise reduction of underwater acoustic signals is the key to underwater acoustic signal processing.
