An Empirical Analysis of Perceptual Judgments

open access: yesThe Baltic International Yearbook of Cognition, Logic and Communication, 2014
This paper is a defense of Reformed Empiricism, especially against those critics who take Reformed Empiricism to be a viable account of empirical rationality only if it avails itself of certain rationalist assumptions that are inconsistent with ...

Does Neoclassical Econometrics Have a Scientific Foundation? A Critique Based on Hollis and Nell

open access: yesRevue Interventions Économiques, 2014
The 2008 global financial crisis has rekindled the debate over the scientific foundations of neo-Classical econometrics. Neo-Classical based econometrics interprets whatever it sees as individuals choosing with some degree of (perhaps bounded ...

Modal Empiricism and Two-Dimensional Semantics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In the paper I argue that it follows from David Chalmers’ semantics and metaphysics concerning microphysical terms that microphysical identifications are strongly necessary.

London eyes: William Dean Howells and the shift to instant photography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Toward the end of the nineteenth century, one of William Dean Howells's many avid readers, finally meeting him in the flesh, expressed surprise that the famed writer was not dead.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Peirce and Sellars on Nonconceptual Content [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Whereas Charles Peirce’s pragmatist account of truth has been much discussed, his theory of perception still offers a rich mine of insights. Peirce presented a ‘two-ply’ view of perception, which combines an entirely precognitive ‘percept’ with a ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

The Coherence of Empiricism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Rationalists often argue that empiricism is incoherent and conclude, on that basis, that some knowledge is a priori. I contend that such arguments against empiricism cannot be parlayed into an argument in support of the a priori since rationalism is ...

Exploratory Analysis of ELP1 Expression in Whole Blood From Patients With Familial Dysautonomia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Familial dysautonomia (FD) is a hereditary neurodevelopmental disorder caused by aberrant splicing of the ELP1 gene, leading to a tissue‐specific reduction in ELP1 protein expression. Preclinical models indicate that increasing ELP1 levels can mitigate disease manifestations.
