Modeling a Hybrid Diode-Thyristor HVDC Rectifier in EMTP-RV [PDF]

open access: yes2006 Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2006
This paper presents the investigation into the viability of a hybrid diode-thyristor High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) rectifier. The large-scale usage of HVDC transmission is limited by several factors and one of the most important factors is the high cost of conversion equipment.

High impedance fault modelling and application of detection techniques with EMTP‐RV

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2018
The aim of this study is to develop a software‐oriented framework that will help simulate and study high impedance faults (HIFs) in power distribution systems, as well as design adequate HIF detection techniques. After a thorough literature review, three well‐established HIF models have been developed in EMTP‐RV, as part of this work. Systematic (black

Impact Theoretical Analysis of Resistive FCL on the Rate of Rise of Recovery Voltage Across Circuit Breaker

open access: yesIET Science, Measurement & Technology
The utilization of fault current limiters (FCLs) results in a decrease in short‐circuit levels. However, as FCLs are integrated within the fault loop circuit, they may exert a significant influence on the transient recovery voltage and rate of rise of ...

Power Dispatching Method for a De‐Loading Operated Wind Farm Participating in Power System Frequency Regulation Considering Wake Effect

open access: yesIET Renewable Power Generation
Under the guidance of the ‘dual carbon’ goals, the installed capacity of wind power continues to grow, increasing wind power penetration levels (WPPLs) and posing challenges to system frequency stability.

A new method for surge arrester placement in high‐voltage substations considering environmental effects

open access: yesIET Science, Measurement & Technology
Conventional approaches for determining the optimal locations of surge arresters (SAs) can result in an unnecessary increase in the number of these devices in high‐voltage substations.

A link between EMTP-RV and FLUX3D for transformer energization studies

open access: yesElectric Power Systems Research, 2009
This paper presents a programmed link between the electromagnetic transients program EMTP-RV and the finite element field solver FLUX3D. The model created in FLUX3D is driven from simulation designs in EMTP-RV. The test cases presented in this paper demonstrate that the coupling method is numerically robust and with sufficient accuracy.

High‐Impedance Fault Detection in Distribution Networks Based on Support Vector Machine and Wavelet Transform Approach (Case Study: Markazi Province of Iran)

open access: yesEnergy Science & Engineering
High impedance faults (HIFs) can lead to crucial damage to the utility grid, such as the risk of fire in material assets, electricity supply interruptions, and long service restoration times.

Estimation of Current Distribution in the Electric Railway System in the EMTP-RV

open access: yesElectric power systems research, 2017
Current distribution is important for the electromagnetic compatibility and electromagnetic fields calculations. The current value directly determines the magnetic field and consequently coupling of the systems. The return current has an opposite direction of supply current and decreases coupling and interferences.
