Mosquitoes in Eastern Ontario, Canada, readily fed on bloodmeal hosts consistent with patterns observed in other regions of North America. Enzootic and bridge vector mosquitoes fed on amplification hosts like American Robins (Turdus migratorius) together with humans, highlighting a potential route for WNV and EEEV transmission to human populations. Effect of blood meals and mating on biodemographic characteristics of Aedes albopictus
Lifespan did not differ between virgin and mated males and females. The number of blood meals (one and two) significantly reduced adult lifespan compared with those with no blood meal. The effect of the second blood meal doubled females' egg production and their reproductive output.

California Arbovirus (La Crosse) Infections II. Precipitin Antibody Tests for the Diagnosis of California Encephalitis [PDF]
Precipitin antibodies to California group arboviruses were studied by double agar gel immunodiffusion (ID) and counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CEP). Forty children with California encephalitis (CE), 12 patients with other forms of meningoencephalitis, and 120 residents of endemic CE areas were tested.

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Mosquitoes of the genus Aedes, including but not limited to Aedes aegypti, are major vectors of arboviruses such as dengue, Zika and other related diseases. Their global expansion is driven by climate change, globalisation, urbanisation and human mobility.

An international study on emerging arboviral infections and blood safety
Abstract Background Emerging and re‐emerging arboviral infections are a risk to blood safety. We conducted an international survey on how blood establishments respond to current and future arbovirus threats. Study Design and Methods A questionnaire on arbovirus donor deferral strategies, pathogen reduction, and donation screening was distributed to ...

Reverse Genetics of Orthoflaviviruses: Strategies for Constructing Functional or Infectious cDNA
ABSTRACT Reverse genetics (RG) systems have transformed RNA virus research by enabling the recovery of recombinant viruses entirely from cloned cDNA. These platforms allow precise, hypothesis‐driven manipulation of viral genomes and support systematic phenotypic analyses in vitro and in vivo.

ABSTRACT Objective Japanese encephalitis (JE) is a mosquito‐borne disease caused by JE virus (JEV) infection, detected for the first time in south‐eastern Australia in 2022. In New South Wales (NSW), detections of JEV in mosquitoes and animal hosts, human JE cases, and climate and environmental considerations have informed which areas are considered ...
