Lymphatic Endothelial Cells in Health and Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) are dynamic regulators of tissue homeostasis and disease remodeling. In the healthy state, LECs coordinate interstitial fluid drainage, intestinal lipid transport, and immune trafficking and tolerance. Across disease settings, however, these same programs become maladaptively reprogrammed, contributing to barrier ...

Modeling the lung‒brain axis in critical illness: Multifactorial crosstalk through organoids and organ‐on‐a‐chip system

open access: yesVIEW, Volume 7, Issue 4, August 2026.
Patients in intensive care units often experience lung injuries, complicated by brain problems. Advanced laboratory tools, organoids, and organs‐on‐chips facilitated the study of multiorgan interactions, help us understand the communication between the lungs and brain.

Unusual MRI features in a case of presumed canine tick‐borne meningoencephalomyelitis

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 3, August 2026.
Abstract A 7‐year‐old, standard, wire‐haired dachshund presented with quickly progressive multifocal central nervous system signs, which localised to the brainstem and cervical myelopathy, including reduced cervical and thoracic limb muscle tone and withdrawal reflexes. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed bilateral, approximately symmetric, T2‐weighted

Pharmacological Inhibition of HDAC6 Transiently Reduces Voluntary Ethanol Consumption in Male Mice

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, Volume 50, Issue 8, August 2026.
The present study shows that systemic administration of the brain‐penetrant selective HDAC6 inhibitor bavarostat reduces voluntary ethanol drinking in male mice. This effect is dose‐dependent, selective for ethanol, independent of ethanol dependence, and transient.

Infection control in the brain and the eye

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 104, Issue 5, Page e478-e490, August 2026.
Abstract The Central Nervous System (CNS), comprising the brain and the eye, is considered to have a ‘privileged’ mechanism for dealing with immunological challenge (immune privilege, IP). CNS IP has been revealed through experiments using foreign protein antigens and cell and tissue alloantigens (grafts), but evidence for a role for IP in modulating ...
