Postinfectious encephalomyelitis
Current Neurology and Neuroscience Reports, 2003Postinfectious forms of encephalomyelitis, also termed acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), form one of several categories of inflammatory demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system (CNS). Recent large, retrospective case series have refined our understanding of the clinical, laboratory, and neuroimaging characteristics of ADEM.

Encephalomyelitis with polyneuropathy
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 2009Four cases of progressive polyneuropathy and bulbar encephalitis and/or myelitis are described. A carcinoma was found in only one of the cases. It is emphasized that this syndrome may occur in the absence of malignant tumors.

Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis
Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, 2007Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a monophasic, demyelinating disease of the central nervous systemthat predominately affects prepubertal children. It is typically characterized by an abrupt onset of neurologic symptoms preceded by an infection or recent immunization.

Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis
Rivista di Neuroradiologia, 2005Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an acute inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS) which is diagnosed more frequently today than in the past, but for which there are no controlled epidemiological data. In children, especially in the first ten years of age, the disease shows a mainly “encephalitic” pattern, albeit with ...

Sporadic Bovine Encephalomyelitis
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1970SUMMARY Sporadic bovine encephalomyelitis (sbe) has been diagnosed in 38 herds in South Dakota and western Minnesota since 1945. From complete data on half the herds, morbidity was 12.3% and mortality was 31.0% of the affected animals. Stiffness, incoordination, and depression were principal clinical signs; serofibrinous peritonitis, pleuritis, and ...

Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis
2004Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that is induced in laboratory animals by the generation of an immune response against myelin epitopes. It has been used as a prototype of Th1- and/or Th17-driven, organ-specific autoimmunity and as a model for the human disease ...

Abstract A very large number of living organisms may invade the nervous system or its membranes, thus causing many forms of encephalomyelitis, meningitis, and meningoencephalomyelitis. The pyogenic organisms mostly cause pyogenic menil1gitis or cerebral abscess.
