Encephalomyelitis with thyrotoxicosis [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Neurology, 1978
A case of thyrotoxicosis associated with neuropathy and encephalomyelitis is reported which gradually improved as regards the hyperthyroidism and the neurological deficit during treatment with Tapazole. The possible role of the nervous system of an excess of thyroxine or an autoimmune factor as a cause of the involvement is discussed.

Encephalomyelitis with polyneuropathy

Acta Neurologica Scandinavica, 2009
Four cases of progressive polyneuropathy and bulbar encephalitis and/or myelitis are described. A carcinoma was found in only one of the cases. It is emphasized that this syndrome may occur in the absence of malignant tumors.

ENCEPHALOMYELITIS RESEMBLING BENIGN MYALGIC ENCEPHALOMYELITIS

The Lancet, 1970
Abstract Four cases of encephalomyelitis resembling benign myalgic encephalomyelitis are reported. A Coxsackie B2 virus was isolated from the cerebrospinal fluid in one case and an echovirus type 3 virus from the faeces and the cerebrospinal fluid in another. Serological tests indicated Coxsackie B2 and Coxsackie B5 infection in the other two cases.

Postinfectious encephalomyelitis

Current Neurology and Neuroscience Reports, 2003
Postinfectious forms of encephalomyelitis, also termed acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), form one of several categories of inflammatory demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system (CNS). Recent large, retrospective case series have refined our understanding of the clinical, laboratory, and neuroimaging characteristics of ADEM.

Porcine Encephalomyelitis Caused by Hemagglutinating Encephalomyelitis Virus

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1976

The disease occurred in 74 litters of pigs and was characterized by sudden onset of tremors, inappetence, weakness, ataxia, and hyperesthesia, with high morbidity and case fatality rate.

Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis

2004
Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that is induced in laboratory animals by the generation of an immune response against myelin epitopes. It has been used as a prototype of Th1- and/or Th17-driven, organ-specific autoimmunity and as a model for the human disease ...

Encephalomyelitis

1983
Abstract A very large number of living organisms may invade the nervous system or its membranes, thus causing many forms of encephalomyelitis, meningitis, and meningoencephalomyelitis. The pyogenic organisms mostly cause pyogenic menil1gitis or cerebral abscess.

The spectrum of disseminated encephalomyelitis

Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2006
Disseminated encephalomyelitis (DEM) is the acute or chronic response of the immune system to an antigen. It is noteworthy that it can affect simultaneously the central and peripheral portions of the nervous system, the latter clearly differentiating it from multiple sclerosis (MS).
