Invasive fungal disease in patients with end-stage liver disease

open access: yesInfectious Diseases & Immunity
. Invasive fungal disease (IFD) has become a critical complication in patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD), marked by a rising prevalence and the emergence of drug-resistant strains in recent decades.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance in chronic liver disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The work presented here analyses the role of PP2A in the dysregulation of glucose metabolism in the setting of chronic hepatitis C. We propose a new model for virus induced insulin resistance development through the overexpression of PP2A in the liver ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Bacterial Infections in End-Stage Liver Disease: Implications for Liver Transplantation

open access: yesTransplantology
Bacterial infections are a common complication in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis. The complex landscape of cirrhosis, characterized by immune paralysis and an exhausted response to exogenous triggers, explains the higher prevalence of such ...

The Nature of Malnutrition in Children with End-Stage Liver-Disease Awaiting Orthotopic Liver-Transplantation

open access: yes, 1992
To evaluate malnutrition in chronic liver disease, and its relationship to nutrient deficiencies and hepatic dysfunction, 27 children with end-stage liver disease were studied. Mean protein-energy intakes were 70% of recommended daily intakes.

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Assessment and management of comorbidities (including cardiovascular disease) in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

open access: yes, 2012
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of liver disease worldwide. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, the progressive form of NAFLD, can lead to end‐stage liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma.
