The endocannabinoid system and ophthalmic pathologies: a review of molecular mechanisms and its implications for clinical practice

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
Within the last decade the role of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) has been a significant part of ophthalmic research, including both ocular physiology and the development of eye pathologies.

Cannabinoids: Well-Suited Candidates for the Treatment of Perinatal Brain Injury

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2013
Perinatal brain injury can be induced by a number of different damaging events occurring during or shortly after birth, including neonatal asphyxia, neonatal hypoxia-ischemia and stroke-induced focal ischemia.

A Novel Function of Nonadecanoic Acid in Regulating Glucose Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 26, 8 May 2026.
This study identifies the odd‐chain fatty acid C19:0 as an endogenous ligand of GPR120 that promotes glucose homeostasis via Gαq signaling. In obesity, elevated palmitic acid suppresses endogenous C19:0 production through a miRNA–PPARα–HACL1 pathway, offering a promising direction for understanding the role of OCFAs in human health.

Canine NAPEPLD-associated models of human myelin disorders [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Canine leukoencephalomyelopathy (LEMP) is a juvenile-onset neurodegenerative disorder of the CNS white matter currently described in Rottweiler and Leonberger dogs. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) allowed us to map LEMP in a Leonberger cohort to dog

Phosphatidic Acid‐TRIM59‐Olig2 Signaling Couples Metabolic Dysfunction to Myelination Failure in PWMI

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 25, 4 May 2026.
PA accumulates after hypoxic‐ischemic injury and stabilizes the E3 ligase TRIM59 in OPCs. Stabilized TRIM59 enhances ubiquitination and degradation of Olig2, blocking differentiation and causing hypomyelination in PWMI. Modulating PA synthesis restores Olig2 levels, improves myelination, and ameliorates behavioral deficits, defining a metabolically ...

Lactobacillus johnsonii Improves Intestinal Barrier Function and Reduces Post-Weaning Diarrhea in Piglets: Involvement of the Endocannabinoid System

open access: yesAnimals
Probiotic intervention is a well-established approach for replacing antibiotics in the management of weaning piglet diarrhea, which involves a large number of complex systems interacting with the gut microbiota, including the endocannabinoid system ...

Adolescent exposure to THC in female rats disrupts developmental changes in the prefrontal cortex

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2015
Current concepts suggest that exposure to THC during adolescence may act as a risk factor for the development of psychiatric disorders later in life. However, the molecular underpinnings of this vulnerability are still poorly understood. To analyze this,

NIR‐II Imaging‐Guided Photothermal Activation of a TRPV4‐Targeted Nanoplatform Delivering Cycloastragenol to Promote Microglia Reprogramming and α‐Synuclein Clearance in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 26, 8 May 2026.
ABSTRACT Current therapies for Parkinson's disease (PD) fail to concurrently address α‐synuclein (α‐syn) aggregation and microglia‐mediated neuroinflammation. Herein, we engineer a near‐infrared‐II (NIR‐II) phototheranostic nanoplatform, CAG/FD1080@MM‐aTRPV4, for synergistic regulation of microglial function and real‐time monitoring of PD pathology. We

Research mapping of cannabinoids and endocannabinoid system in cancer over the past three decades: insights from bibliometric analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
BackgroundThe cannabinoids and endocannabinoid system are thought to play critical roles in multiple signaling pathways in organisms, and extensive evidence from preclinical studies indicated that cannabinoids and endocannabinoids displayed anticancer ...

Cannabinoids and drug–drug pharmacokinetic interactions: Deciphering the risks

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 92, Issue 5, Page 1287-1308, May 2026.
The relationship between cannabinoids and mental health has become a major focus of scientific inquiry and public discourse. Cannabinoids are diverse chemical compounds from the Cannabis species that have been explored for their therapeutic applications in treating chronic pain, psychiatric and neurological conditions, such as depression, schizophrenia,
