The Endocarps of Cocculus (Menispermaceae)

Kew Bulletin, 1974
Summary. The surface-patterns on the endocarps of Cocculus are described and illustrated with SEM photographs. The value of these patterns in the taxonomy of the genus is discussed. Important taxonomic characters are provided by the form of the fruit and endocarp in the Menispermaceae. In some parts of the family, especially in the tribes Cocculeae and

Endocarp Dehiscence in Pistachio (Pistacia veraL.)

International Journal of Plant Sciences, 1999
Two sites exist for endocarp dehiscence (shell split) in the pistachio nut (Pistacia vera L., Anacardiaceae). Longitudinal dehiscence occurs along lines of cells that have highly lignified, interlocking walls and are differentiated from cells of the neighboring endocarp only by being somewhat smaller and slightly elongate in the radial plane.

Conversion of peach endocarp and polyethylene residue by the co-pyrolysis process

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2021
The south of Brazil has a high production of peaches which generates the stone as residue. The recycling of biomass and plastic waste is a challenge that must be overcome. Therefore, co-pyrolysis emerges as a possibility for joint conversion of peach stone and plastic bags into value-added products.

Dry Torrefaction of Olive Endocarp for Biochar Production

2022
The olive endocarp is a by-product of the olive oil industry that is used as biofuel due to its high calorific value and its low ash content. The application of a dry torrefaction treatment (pyrolysis at low temperature) on the olive endocarp could generate a treated solid (biochar) with improved energy properties. In this work, the dry torrefaction of

Molecular paleobotany ofNyssaendocarps

Acta Botanica Neerlandica, 1989
SUMMARY Fruit endocarps of three recent Nyssa species from southern Georgia and endocarps of three Nyssa species from the late-Oligocene Brandon lignite, VT. are characterized and compared using pyrolysis gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (PYGCMS), pyrolysis-mass spectrometry (PYMS and desorption chemical ionization mass spectrometry DCIMS), and ...

Polysaccharides leached from the surface of pea endocarp

Phytochemistry, 1987
Abstract Polymers (apparent M r 1.1–1.23 x 10 6 ) containing ca 80% carbohydrate and 16% protein are leached by water from the surface of pea endocarps. These polymers were examined by hydrolysis, methylation analysis and Trisacryl gel column chromatography and were found to be primarily acidic arabinogalactans (Type II) with a 3-linked galactan

Effects of Auxins on Membrane Permeability and Pectic Substances in Bean Endocarp

Nature, 1959
IT has been shown1,2 that auxins delay the onset of senescence in bean endocarp and various leaf tissues (Rhoeo, Mesembryanthemum) maintained in vitro. In the absence of auxin, liquid-logging of intercellular spaces is followed by cellular dissociation and rounding off of cells.

Phytogeographic implications of fossil endocarps of Menispermaceae from the Paleocene of Colombia

American Journal of Botany, 2011
• Premise of the study: Fossil leaves of Menispermaceae were previously described from the Paleocene of Colombia. Because of strong homoplasy of leaf characters, the fossils could not be placed more specifically within recognized clades, and additional data were needed to specify intrafamilial and paleogeographic relationships during the Paleocene ...

Endocarp morphology of Iranian Celtis (Celtidaceae-Cannabaceae)

2010
Endocarp morphology of 4 species of Iranian Celtis was examined using light and scanning electron microscopes. Macro- and micro-morphological characters were included endocarp shape, color, size, surrounding rim, ornamentation and SEM structure of the outer layer of the endocarp.
