Endocytosis

Physiological Reviews, 1997
Mammalian cells take up extracellular material by a variety of different mechanisms that are collectively termed endocytosis. Endocytic mechanisms serve many important cellular functions including the uptake of extracellular nutrients, regulation of cell-surface receptor expression, maintenance of cell polarity, and antigen presentation.

Adenovirus endocytosis

The Journal of Gene Medicine, 2003
AbstractPathogen entry into cells occurs by direct penetration of the plasma membrane, clathrin‐mediated endocytosis, caveolar endocytosis, pinocytosis or macropinocytosis. For a particular agent, the infectious pathways are typically restricted, reflecting a tight relationship with the host.

Yeast endocytosis

Trends in Cell Biology, 1993
The presence of an endocytic pathway in cells from a wide range of species and the conservation of the proteins involved in this process throughout evolution suggest that endocytosis is of fundamental importance for the eukaryotic cell. However, some surprising recent results have shown that both Dictyostelium discoideum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae ...
