Monetary policy and endogenous time preference

Journal of Economic Studies, 2006
PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to derive the real implications of inflation targeting using optimizing models characterized by endogenous time preference.Design/methodology/approachTo ensure consistent consumption and savings behavior, the rate of time preference is modeled as an increasing function of real wealth.FindingsThe results are not ...

The Endogenous Determination of Time Preference

The Quarterly Journal of Economics, 1997
We model a consumer's efforts to reduce the discount on future utilities. Our analysis shows how wealth, mortality, addictions, uncertainty, and other variables affect the degree of time preference. In addition to working out many implications of the model, we discuss evidence on consumption, savings, equilibrium, and the dynamics of inequality.

ENDOGENOUS TIMING IN CONTESTS WITH DELEGATION

Economic Inquiry, 2012
We study two‐player contests in which each player hires a delegate, and the delegates decide endogenously when to expend their effort. First, we look closely at the delegates' decisions on when to expend their effort, given contracts between the players and the delegates, and look at the players' decisions on their contracts.

Coordination Failure and Endogenous Timing

1993
In game theoretic modelling there are generally two problems. The first the problem of leadership. In most models it is assumed either that all players act simultaneously or that the players act in an exogenously given order. In reality it is often the case that it is not clear whether there is a leader, and if so, who is the leader.

Endogenous and Exogenous Election Timing

2019
Abstract This chapter examines the rules that govern election timing in democracies. It begins by distinguishing between constitutionally fixed (exogenous) and constitutionally flexible (endogenous) election timing, reviews which political actors can call early elections when endogenous election timing is permitted, and notes that early ...

Trending Time Series Models with Endogeneity

2020
The thesis explores the endogeneity problem in the trending regression models. I propose a nonparametric control function method and a bias-correction method to deal with this problem in the weak and strong trending time series regression models respectively. I have proved that the proposed estimators for the coefficients are unbiased and consistent so
