GASTROINTESTINAL ENDOSCOPIC POLYPECTOMY

Recent advances in the field of gastroenterological endoscopy have now embraced endoscopic polypectomy. Experiences at the Royal North Shore Hospital over a period of one year include 42 colonic and three gastric polypectomies. Rectal bleeding was the main presenting feature in the patients with colonic polyps.

Bacteremia with gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures

The authors have reviewed 40 prospective studies of bacteremia with gastrointestinal procedures. Endoscopic procedures with a low mean frequency of bacteremia were esophagogastroduodenoscopy (4.2%), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (5.6%), colonoscopy (2.2%), and sigmoidoscopy (4.9%).
