Genomic and Metabolic Characterization of a Potentially Novel Paenibacillus Species Isolated as a Laboratory Contaminant Growing on Medium Supporting Cotton Tissue Culture

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 6, December 2025.
This study explores the genomic and metabolic characterization of a potentially novel Paenibacillus species isolated from cotton plant tissues. Phylogenetic analysis based on multi‐locus sequence data from six conserved genes reveals that Paenibacillus sp. TAB_01 forms a distinct lineage among 19 Paenibacillus species. Paenibacillus sp.

Rhodobacter johrii sp. nov., an endospore-producing cryptic species isolated from semi-arid tropical soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
An oval to rod shaped phototrophic purple nonsulfur bacterium, strain JA192T was isolated from an enrichment culture of a pasteurized rhizosphere soil sample of jowar crop collected from Godumakunta village, near Hyderabad, India.

Genome‐Driven Analysis Reveals the Biotechnological Potential of a Novel Paenibacillus sp. Isolated From Crude Oil

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 6, December 2025.
The novel Paenibacillus sp. strain 210, isolated from Brazilian crude oil, its genome encoding 259 carbohydrate‐active enzymes for degrading cellulose, xylan, and pectin, positioning it as a candidate for biofuel production. The strain harbors complete pathways for B‐vitamin biosynthesis and antimicrobial biosynthetic clusters (e.g., fusaricidin and ...

Hyperspectral Reflectance for Rapid Viability Assessment of Bacillus Endospores [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A study was conducted to optically determine the viability of the Gram +, endospore-forming bacterial genera Bacillus using a hyperspectral reflectance spectrometer. Endospores are a dormant, differentiated cellular capsule form taken by select bacteria

Olive Pomace Inclusion Alters the Microbial Community of Black Soldier Fly Larvae Frass While Maintaining Fertilizer Quality

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 14, Issue 6, December 2025.
Olive pomace was evaluated as a feed component for rearing BSF larvae in industrial scale. The presence of olive pomace did not affect larvae or frass composition, even when frass was submitted to heat treatment or pelletization. Bacterial and fungal communities were affected by olive pomace.

Survival of thermophilic spore-forming bacteria in a 90+ year old milk powder from Ernest Shackelton's Cape Royds Hut in Antarctica [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Milk powder taken to Antarctica on Shackelton's British Antarctic Expedition in 1907 was produced in New Zealand by a roller drying process in the first factory in the world dedicated to this process. Thermophilic bacilli are the dominant contaminants of

Inactivation of bacterial endospores by photocatalytic nanocomposites

open access: yesColloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, 2005
A novel biocidal photocatalytic nanocomposite, composed of TiO(2) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs), was synthesized via wet chemistry followed by a heat treatment. Uniform anatase coatings on MWNTs were successfully obtained with a thickness of a few nanometers.

Biochemical diversity of bacterial isolates from paddy soils of peninsular Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this study, the diversity of bacterial isolates from paddy soil located in several rice growing areas of Peninsular Malaysia was evaluated. Phenotypic and physiological characteristics of the isolates were recorded to categorize and identify the ...
