Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Microvesicles derived from dermal myofibroblasts modify the integrity of the blood and lymphatic barriers using distinct endocytosis pathways

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Biology
Microvesicles (MVs) are a subtype of extracellular vesicles that can transfer biological information from their producer cells to target cells. This communication can in turn affect both normal and pathological processes.

Endothelial cells instruct liver specification of embryonic stem cell-derived endoderm through endothelial VEGFR2 signaling and endoderm epigenetic modifications

open access: yesStem Cell Research, 2018
Liver organogenesis requires complex cell-cell interactions between hepatic endoderm cells and adjacent cell niches. Endothelial cells are key players for endoderm hepatic fate decision. We previously demonstrated that the endothelial cell niche promotes

cMet and fas receptor interaction inhibits death-inducing signaling complex formation in endothelial cells

open access: yes, 2005
Fas receptor is constitutively expressed on endothelial cells; however, these cells are highly resistant to Fas-mediated apoptosis. In this study, we examined death-inducing signaling complex (DISC) formation in endothelial cells after Fas receptor ...

T-cadherin signaling in endothelial cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The cadherin superfamily comprises transmembrane glycoproteins that mediate calciumdependent homophilic cell-cell adhesion. In addition to their pivotal role in mechanical adhesion between cells, cadherins have multiple functions in tissue ...

Blood‐based proteomic profiling reveals context‐dependent changes in BCL2‐associated signaling during taxane therapy in breast cancer patients

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Increase in circulating endothelial progenitor cells by statin therapy in patients with stable coronary artery disease

open access: yes, 2001
Background - Therapeutic neovascularization may constitute an important strategy to salvage tissue from critical ischemia. Circulating bone marrow–derived endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) were shown to augment the neovascularization of ischemic tissue.

Shear Stress Induces the Release of an Endothelial Elastase: Role in Integrin alpha(v)beta(3)-Mediated FGF-2 Release [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background/Aims: Laminar shear stress is an important stimulus in the endothelium-dependent control of vascular tone and of vascular remodeling processes.
